"We have to start thinking about the planet we are going to leave behind for Keith Richards"
Title and précis (source)
Okay, it's an old joke about the planet and the seemingly indestructible Keith but I enjoyed it and also Keith and Jimmy Fallon playing and singing in this video:
Jimmy: How do you do it? How do you do it?
Keith: ... pause ... I don't know.
I enjoyed the video a lot because Keith looked like he was enjoying himself. Jimmy looked like all his ships had come in on the same day. Great to hear all those old tunes. Tunes you grew up with 😂.
Meanwhile, back to the planet: the vlogger I talked about in this post was featured in The Guardian yesterday, billed as Instead of feeling like a failure, I'm trying half-arsed veganism and supports the idea that 'small but achievable changes are more likely to lead to a bigger, more enduring lifestyle choice." Lady, when we're burning to a crisp, it's going to be more than a lifestyle choice.
But anyway, the article quotes B J Hogg (who sounds like a fairground promoter or one of those tech bros I met at the LIFT Conference in Geneva one time):
Fogg posits that rather than breaking a habit, we should untangle it. Just as if we were unsnarling a set of Christmas lights, he argues, we can’t do it all at once. We start with the easiest tangle first, and we will get there in the end. Untangling a habit helps to reset our expectations about the process of change: that it is, in fact, a process.
This chimes with my own experiences, I just do a bit at a time and keep going. Mostly I stay on the wagon, but sometimes I get fed up with the peeling and chopping and wholesome goodness of it all and pop into the Chinese takeaway for a marvellously greasy, crispy, burn-your-mouth-hot pancake roll filled with bean sprouts and tiny morsels of shrimp and chopped char sui pork.
Something about it reminds me of my childhood, wild extravagances when my dad, a bricklayer working on the lump, got paid for a job. Weeks of simple meals burst out into neon-coloured sweet and sour sauce with prawn balls (more of that luscious batter, crispy outside and soft inside), mild yellow chicken curry, crab and sweetcorn soup, crispy seaweed and sesame prawn toasts.
It was wonderful.
People very much latch onto all-or-nothing in so many areas of life, when that just isn't usually how it goes.
Like pre-allergy diagnoses, I was either lacto-ovo vegetarian or vegan for over a decade. I say it like that because I didn't declare one day to be vegan, I just gradually became more and more vegan as I tried new things. I am of course not now because my diet is so limited from the allergies (and still shrinking, sigh), but despite the diet change I've still got a smaller carbon footprint than most Americans by a lot when I do those calculators and compare. We all have different circumstances and do what we can.
It's like with new years resolutions, people have one slip and feel defeated, when that mindset is the problem. Perfection isn't the goal, just doing what you can is. :) Being 75% vegan or whatever is still great!

.Yeah its a pretty popular meme here with old Willie.
Willie has a few years on Keith but they both can hold their own!
Nothing like a grizzled old-timer, musicians seem to do it so well.
I do three things so that planet benefits out of me. Feed the creatures(Stray animals and birds) and planting as many trees as possible. Apart from this life is tough and we should not beat ourselves trying to be always giving as that flaw can open up to many wounds and people take advantage. Giving back to the nature is the only way I feel everyone honestly can wipe out bad karma done over the years. Rest of the human social drama is unavoidable.
👍
The most important thing when it comes to eating (even though cooking is irreplaceable) is and always will be respect for the products that are processed. Whether vegan, vegetarian or containing animal products, don't just shove them into your mouth without thinking. Every plant and animal deserves that respect.
Keith Richards seems to have had a really good day 😉 because on stage he sometimes forgets what his job is.
The fact that he doesn't know how to come up with such riffs - I believe him 😮.
I watched many funny clips where this was the case!
You made me remember child hood too. My dad is an engineer and we only get to eat bread and ta every night, lol
It was our daily food
😍
I think focusing more on the process when it comes to untangling a habit actually gets us somewhere than trying to chop it off once and for all. The strategy works better when we're also creating a new habit to replace the old one, in a way.
I agree 😍
Keef is amazing. He ought to be good after 60-odd years of playing this stuff. I knew he tended to play 5 string guitars, but hadn't seen one like that where the 6th tuner is missing. He's done all the drugs, but keeps going.
There seems to be a lot of selfishness in the world where people don't care about what sort of world they leave behind. Those doing the most damage are generally having a luxurious life (big house, multiple cars, lots of flights). They could get by with less without suffering. Meanwhile millions don't even have electricity. I have a post about this stuff in mind.
We get a finite time on this planet, so we need to live our best life. May as well start right now.
Great set of gnashers, too.
That's true about the 1% causing more damage than the 99% but I believe we still need to keep plugging away.
Keith must be getting prepared to receive the planet that will be left for him.
😁
Ah we gave up our car in Covid and refused to get another one. Yeah it often causes inconvenience, but it is us doing our bit.
Most people don't care.
I think there is some faulty logic about cars.
I remember being at a conference and someone talking about cars give you more choices and I wasn't sure that was right. It seemed to me having a car brought a different set of problems: like we have an erroneous idea that we can do more.
Public transport is not always good - the last bus to this village is late afternoon.
