Saturday Savers Club | Week 24 | Saturday 15 June 2024 | All Change!
View from Manchester Art Gallery, Mosley Street, Manchester. I was impressed with the trams. The Gallery had a lovely Cafe, full of people chattering - and a communal chattering table if you wanted to talk to other people - there was something very old-fashioned and Lyons tearoom about it.
Weekly Savings Round-Up
Hive Engagement and Adjusting Delegations
Is commenting on Hive dead? asks @spinvest about the level - or lack - of engagement on posts. There were some interesting responses, I'd been noticing the decrease in posting and that I wasn't using all my voting power.
I've made a few changes this week: increased delegations to curation trails taking my effective VP back to the Orca threshold, and increasing the voting percentages on my auto-votes.
I'll check how that goes for a week or two and adjust as necessary.
DCA-ing HIVE
I'm also DCA-buying HIVE while it is so low to build my kitty for selling later in the cycle, probably twelve to eighteen months from now. The sensible thing would be to DCA out as well, and it would fit with the 13 week power-down, so maybe I'll get around to that, too.
HSBI update
HSBI is running pretty much back to normal, except for being able to see your balances on PeakD and the website. You can pull your balances any time by using the @ sbi status command (without the gap between @ and sbi) on any post or comment.
@eds-vote delegations
Looks like @eds-vote is stabilising at just under 320,000 HP at 319,686 for the second week running! Even without the SPI 100k kitty, this is still 220k of delegations. 😁
Savings Goals
Let's see how we're doing:
Asset | Goal | Start | Last Week | Today | Progress |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Hive Power | 115,000 | 100,400 | 110,000 | 112,342 | 97% |
EDS | 4,600 | 3,299 | 3,937 | 3,960 | 86% |
HSBI | 1,000 | 741 | 961 | 970 | 97% |
HBD | 10,000 | 5,374 | 1653 | 1653 | 17% |
EDSD | 1,000 | 128 | 128 | 139 | 14% |
Progress
- EDS, EDS-VOTE, EDSD - Everything going well here, @eds-vote sitting at just under 320,000 HP, lots from Saturday Savers which is fabulous to see. We've also set up a curation trail for eds-vote which supports Savers so a nice circular economy. I'm buying EDSD with my earnings from my side-hustle and posting, and I've decided to track EDSD acquisitions each week. (More about side-hustles).

What's New
Mainly catching up with myself this week and putting everything in place to wind down for the summer break (I'm planning to take the school holidays off this year). It is blowing a gale here - wet and windy - although mild. Ideal for what I'm doing which is spring cleaning.
Have a good week everyone!
I've seen others mention the lack of comments. I get a few, but I may not be typical. I get that some people just chase the rewards, but Hive can be fun if you engage with others as you would on other social media. I don't see why it can't be like FB groups, but we have less active users than some of those.
I think there are lots of variables that affect engagement and I agree, generally, you reap what you sow.
You can't really generalise about such things. The Hive userbase is very diverse and motivations vary. Obviously the price doesn't help, but if we had more users then more things become possible. I just want to get away from crappy corporate platforms.
Again, I agree 🙂. I thought your comments on one of your latest posts about people not really understanding what Hive was all about were spot on. It doesn't really help that InLeo is so wedded to outmoded marketing ideas.
I see a lot of people using Threads, but I am less into short-form posting and it lacks some things that would make it more useful to me. We need different options to cover all the bases.
Short form has its place but when I think of the time I invested in Twitter back in 2007-2010 and what happened subsequently ie the horrible place it is now, I'm much less interested in spending my time like that.
InLeo are overly invested in a particular business model - almost the inverse of the alternative opportunities Hive presents and you were talking about in your post.
The good thiing is that there are so many options on Hive and I guess one of the benefits of Threads is that we get away from the dreadful clash over "quality" posts, whatever they are.
I've done thousands of Tweets, but hardly use it now. I was also active on identica that is gone now. At least our Hive content will live on.
My only concern with InLeo is whether they stay on Hive. I have thought the same about Splinterlands. I would rather have these projects on the chain even if I am not into them.
We know that quality is relative and that some posts will earn regardless. If Hive did scale up then rewards would be spread much thinner. With millions of users they would probably earn a lot less $HIVE than we do, but then the value could go up. I am curious to see what could happen, but there's little sign of the growth we need.
Interestingly, growth in holding crypto currency doubled in the UK in the year to June 2023, and doubled the year before that, too, so now about 10% of the population, just under 5m people, hold a small amount of crypto - mostly around £100 - including allowing for the proportion of the population who are digitally excluded. The next report is due this month and I'm interested to see what it says.
On the other hand, there are 21,000 blockchains/currencies out there, so a lot of competition for a still very small audience.
In the workshops last week, one of the mind blowing things was that block chains are "printing currencies out of no where" and this was cited as possible one of the reasons why there was a lack of confidence in it. I did point out that the Bank of England also prints money out of thin air with nothing backing it and I'm hoping they all went off to check that after the session.
Having done the workshops, I have a bit more of an idea what to include in session, which was helpful.
Most of us don't really understand how money works, but crypto does get over-hyped. People are tempted by potential quick profits. I just don't see anything else offering what Hive does as an alternative to the social companies that most people don't actually like. You would think that at least some crypto communities would get involved or are they purely focused on one particular coin?
You are doing pretty great. I hope to get to such point someday on Hive. Giving my best on the blockchain and not milking it. Just like me and a handful of people Hive has changed my life and I am stuck with like gums from old shoes.
This post was inspiring, thanks for sharing😃
😍
What does it mean to DCA-Hive?
Also, your post is inspiring and I hope to stack up more Hive as soon as possible
DCA = dollar cost averaging.
You buy the same number of HIVE or you spend the same budget at regular intervals regardless of the price.
Posting for me is hit or miss but engaging on comments is something I try to do every day. Over the past few months I have been slowly adding more folks to engage with so you are now on my friends to follow. Your goals are impressive and I'm sure you will achieve them quickly. It inspires me to set goals of my own!
Always pleased to see more people setting out tracks for themselves 😍
