Channeling the rage of the masses
Last night I went to see a band I’ve been really into recently. Gezan is not for everyone but I feel that they channel a lot of the rage that many people feel about the contraditions within the system that we are all a part of whether we like it or not.
Personally I feel strongly that the system has done a lot of good and a lot of bad, but probably more good than bad. People suffer a whole lot more than they did in the past and there are far fewer tragedies, even if there still are many….
…but the cost of improvement has been rigidity and the chipping away of our humanity. Not only that, it promotes the centralization of power and unsustainable growth and seems to be imploding on itself in many aspects.
I feel the rage. I understand it well because I’ve always felt it.
It’s not as if I want a return to the world before, but at some point we need to realize that the mindset that got us this far isn’t going to get us any further. Dog eat dog is a mindset for a people who are disconnected and scrambling for basic necessities. We claim to be far past that and indeed we are. So there is no reason we should be working harder and harder for less and less.
People ascribe different reasons to this but I feel confident that the reason is succumbing to fear, fear that we will have to indeed fight for resources, a scarcity mindset. When every seeks to hoard more than they need, whether they’ve earned it or not, and when there is enough to go around, abundance cannot exist.
Meanwhile abundance wants to exist and we are constantly moving towards it in countless ways, but so many people still cling on to that old fear. They believe work is supposed to be unpleasant and that they can’t show who they really are.
As ive said recently in a post, it’s about discovering who you are and finding better ways to express it, not hiding it. That is the direction to the promised land, knowing that there’s a place for you if you continue to improve and believe that you can become everything you want to be.
As I was watching Gezan, I felt mysef surge with power. I could see myself on the stage, helping others release their pain and frustration. I knew that I am still capable of so much more and that I am moving towards that.
This is what their concerts feel like:
It was spectacular!
I am even more energized now to go out and do what I came here to do!

I'm way too old now for those concerts. Not like I'm physically too encrippled, I just can't stand to do anymore damage to my ears or my back or have my bad toe stepped on, I just want the sound of trickling water and rustling leaves.
Tbh, I don't think so. I think it is a mindset thing, but one based upon the fact that our entire global economy is built on a ponzi scheme that we percieve requires more growth, perpetually. This isn't true, but nobody has a clue how to get out of it.
If you stop growth, you are seen as making everybody poorer. If you reduce population, you're creating an 'aging population'. If you reduce immigration even 1%, you're racist and heartless against all the poor immigrants of the world, even though a 1% reduction is still 200% higher than it was 5 years ago.
Going back, regressing is considered a terrible thing we should avoid at all costs. And so what choice do we have? We set our own philosophy of perpetual growth. It's like constantly driving a bus that will explode if it slows down - only in this movie, it has to also gradually accelerate until it presumably hits the speed of light.
We could just plan for controlled reductions and redactions but... nah
I’m physically too old 🤣 but definitely not mentally, as long as it’s not too crowded, which it wasn’t in the middle of the audience. No way I’m going up to the front now.
I don’t think we disagree. I see the fear as what is fueling the Ponzi scheme. There is no reason to spend all that money on university for 90% of the people, most of what they teach is useless or available online for free. People accept shitty jobs at shitty companies for shitty pay because they don’t believe anything else is possible.
I don’t have a solution to solve all of our problems but I know if we looked out for each other more and had higher standards, things would not devolve as quickly as they are and more solutions to more problems would be popping up faster.
Hive has been one solution for me, I would not have been able to continue as a freelancer without it, it got me through those slumps. There are tons of other things that would develop if we put our energy towards looking for them instead of trying to live safely. People are too worried about their future without realizing that if we don’t solve the future of the collective, they will have no individual future.
I think reputation will be a major currency of the future, and I would suggest everyone works on building it, not on tricking people into thinking they are something different or special but actually doing things that matter like creating a better atmosphere and being more generous with their time and energy, working on themselves to be more adaptable and emotionally stable because that will matter more and more.
I’m not talking about a social credit system, more like 关系 but less of an “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” and more like “I see how you treat people so I know I can trust you”. There will be tokenized versions of this and also intangible versions of it which have always existed but will become more popular because currency is less reliable. And I imagine there will be a transitional generation where people try to build reputation by silly manipulative means until people are forced to get better at judging character
I've become so anti-university as the years go by it's unreal. I always resented it from the day I graduated, which is why I never got a masters. I had every opportunity to, but I just felt so frustrated at the whole system even as a young whippersnapper. Now, I'd abolish at least half of them lol.
We need a new chinese term for it =D The problem is I guess it is a part of the whole guanxi system, but it's just something so easily exploited and manipulated, your described dreams would take many generations to iron out the corrupt (if even possible)
I do see an exciting future, but it's so many lifetimes ahead of me that I don't tend to think about it much. My home country is pretty much fucked and going downhill for the rest of my life, undoubtedly. But many other countries you can clearly see a positive path going forward while taking new, unorthodox approaches to a modern set of problems. That's pretty cool to see. I do hope Hive eventually becomes a part of that, but I imagine it'll just be something of an approximation made by a government years from now.
I like to think that it's sooner than that, but my senses aren't telling me that, only my intuition, so my brain and my heart like this fight about this. It certainly feels like a better world is going to take a few generations, but since the world is still interconnected more than ever, I think we may see some places where it starts to get better earlier.
It sounds crazy but a Venezuelan friend from Hive and I always talk about how they are a bit ahead of the curve and so things may get better there first, since people are already used to hardship and are evolving faster as a result. That feeling was first met with scorn by people around him but now seems to be more acceptable although most people don't agree yet.
I think the pockets of harmony are going to increase as the majority of humanity faces a decade or two of what I've heard called a "silent depression", and maybe another decade or two of slow recovery from that. I hope I can speed it up in whatever small way.
I feel like a lot of good ideas have been co-opted by powerful people and perverted versions of them are being forced fed through the organizations they influence, but it's not a problem of the idea, it's that it's forced fed or has all kinds of fine print they don't mention. "You'll own nothing" is going way too far, but "You won't have to own anything, but you'll be able to if you want to" might be a more pure and really awesome version of the same idea for example. Of course it won't come about the same way.
I've been trying to identify other good ideas which might be hiding in some of the twisted ideas.
About university...ME TOO! Not only that but all of school. At least call it socialization instead of education, that'd be a huge improvement because at least it'd be honest. I've written lots of posts about this and I will write many more :-)
Firstly, the music video that you shared is amazing... I didn't expect that kind of music, with a weird instrument and singing/telling the story type of song... 🙂
And you mentioned some crucial points of view and how they are presented to us... dog eat dog, scarcity of resources, fighting for survival... And I would say that all those MSM stuff is pure BS... Also, in one of my previous posts I shared the view that I have a feeling that in the last 40-50 years, society is going backwards... It is "presented to us" that we can't do anything without X person/company, that the system it is like it is, and in some way, it killed the CURIOUSITY and DEVELOPMENT of IDEAS... We caged ourselves and it looks like we disabled ourselves from thinking out of the box! Which our ancestors did before...
Reading your post and having thoughts about these things, gives me more motivation to nurture and help in Web3 adoption and educating about decentralization... Empowering ourselves and others!

Glad you like it! I recommend the albums ANOCHI and KLUE!
On the surface we are definitely going backwards, but I feel that the undercurrent is still forwards. It’s just that our next evolutionary steps will force the whole system to change so dramatically that life will be unrecognizable in a few decades, and so we are facing a bit of resistance from the current system.
Web3 is only one part of what is coming, and it will transcend political ideology. Imagine a world where we can choose the version of society we want to live in like we choose a movie on Netflix, plus the cost of transportation and the time it takes to get to a destination. I believe that’s where we are headed, where the ideology of decentralization goes far beyond currency.
Actually I believe this band is doing their part in a way, allowing a culture which is way too self repressed to feel all the anger that’s built up to come out in a way that is constructive rather than destructive. I find a lot of new artists have a variety of messages which not only show dissatisfaction with the current system, but also offer hope and energy that can help to create something better!
People keep working harder for less and less but with the way the world is crazy, we now see it as a norm which isn’t supposed to be. Anyone who works hard is supposed to make more but it isn’t like that in this world anymore
