Back on Track!!!!

And we’re back!

I had spent the beginning of the week in a slump because recording wasn’t going so well. We ended up having to do 4 takes of the first song. Finally everything sounded ok but I noticed distortion on the vocals, despite the levels looking fine….

I got nervous that all the other songs would run into similar problems but finally after a deep dive on EQ, I tried to add one a high pass filter to each vocal track which got rid of some of the unnecessary frequencies (background noise, mumbling tones) and I finally had something I could work with.

Not only that, the bass sounds fantastic!!! I came up with such a killer riff!! The vocals need some work but it’s going to be a very full song, 8-9 layers of vocals and a very light guitar and heavy bass.

So we are slowly moving out of the demo and planning stage and into the final recording stage!!

We finished two tracks, one of the most difficult ones and the easiest one.

We decided to add two interludes so the album will be 9 tracks but 2 should be very quick and two are more than half complete so that leaves the bulk of the work being 5 tracks.

There are two others tracks I’ve practiced a lot and want to record the guitar and vocals Final Cut by the end of next week.

One of those songs will serve as a single, although I am seriously considering asking a brass band we know if they can record just a rough take for us to use on the album.

I’m so excited to start seeing how this story will be told…

A mystic prog pop bass heavy nearly acapella chant to silence the sounds of daily routine and bring you into another world, then a reminder that everything will be ok as we begin a climb up a lonely ice covered mountain, a quiet somber folk song….

After that our longest song about breaking free from chains that bind….followed by a wide open ocean, a death and rebirth. Finally a release of anger and frustration and a devotion towards life and the arrival of peace as a new story begins.

I fucking love it! I fucking love it! And I believe that by the end of August I’ll be able to share a song or two, and hopefully by October the album will be out!

It’s really looking like we will be able to finish recording by the end of August, and if we can get mixing done at the same time, we will make that deadline!

For now you can preview 3 of these songs on our live album “Resonance Experiments 1-2”

The conceptual journey you described for the album—from the icy mountain to the final peace—sounds incredibly intriguing. Best of luck

Yay for back on track!

At least you have some idea of what you're doing, I remember working on a video recently where for once I needed to actually try to get rid of the chatter near the camera as there was a lot of narration (normally for these videos it's just the announcement of the act followed either immediately or after a cut if they took a bit to get organised by the act, and then more recently I started just captioning the acts so I could cut the announcement unless there was something particularly entertaining about the announcement that warranted its inclusion, but this performance had a different format as it was a milestone year). I had exactly no idea what I was doing, I followed some instructions that I did try to understand the logic behind and it did help but I still have no idea why XD

Yeah there's been a lot of those videos sessions these days. I start recording and then realize I need to study something and spend 20 minutes watching clips. Glad we are learning!
