I never claim to be obsessed with music. I believe music is ingrained in our DNA. I believe it is what breaths life into us. It is an emotional representation of the geometry that makes up existence. I'm not obsessed with music. I just recognize it for what it is.

Sadly a lot of the people who knew a lot of underground music left the platform before scrobble.life was made and so the database we have to draw from there is a lot smaller than it should be.

After you listen to a song on spotify with the scrobble web extension active, it will make the song you listened to available in the database, and so the last few days I've been trying to get a bunch of my favorite artists from over the years up there.

I have too many "favorites" to even list, it'll be months before I get them all up there, but so far I've got my favorite albums by James Blake, Dan Deacon, Blonde Redhead, Broken Social Scene, Of Monteal, Bjork, Mr. Bungle, and AIR up there.

I will keep scrobbling more so more great music is available to everyone to rate and share on threads (when you leave a comment on scrobble, you can automatically upload it as a thread which will share the song with everyone).

I know a lot of people at hive don't understand my music taste. Some may find it a little difficult or strange, and for others it may just not be their thing, but I can safely assert that I know a wider variety of music than 98% of people at Hive. I don't think I know that much more than the population at large, but the Music niche at Hive is small and there aren't many people who really dig into different genres from different generations or people who appreciate the art of the album here, so I really want to encourage such behavior.

I hope I can expand people's tastes a little. I promise that there is SOMETHING I listen to that you have never heard that you will love, and for many of you who haven't dug much into different genres, countries or eras, almost everything will be new to you.

James Blake - James Blake - A minimalist electronic dreamscape. The phrase "less is more" has never been more true than this album. He was part of the UK dubstep scene before pop singers like Beyonce started hiring him to write songs. An artist that artists listen to.

Blonde Redhead - Misery is a Butterfly - One of the most melancholic and ethereal rock bands of a generation, and one of the most underrated bands of all time. Two Italian twins on guitar drums and vocals and a Japanese woman on bass and vocals. Both vocalists rock.

Air - Talkie Walkie - Pop that isn't all that pop, an electro journey into the sky, French duo and a favorite indie classic from the early 2000's

Mr. Bungle - California - One of the most INTERESTING albums of all time. I don't think I've ever heard so many genres on one album. From klezmer to Indonesian traditional Kecak to metal to surf rock to soul and probably 100 others. Somehow it still feels coherent, despite being utter chaos. Mike Patton is a genius.

Bjork - Vespertine - Many people know Bjork and don't even know her music. It's a shame because her first 4-5 albums were utterly perfect, each embodying a very different vibe. For me Vespertine is at the top. It's sensual beyond words. Bjork is pop if you get rid of all the conventions of pop. I believe she's influenced everyone who came after her whether they know it or not.

ALL OF THESE ALBUMS ARE PERFECT

There are no bad songs.

They were not made to be carried by singles.

They all create a mood from start to finish, though the songs can be enjoyed one by one.

I will be giving 50-100% upvotes to scrobblers on snaps, especially songs that are not on the Billboard charts. It can be something I listen to or something I don't, the more niche or underground or interesting you go, the more I will be rooting for you.

Incoming Signal

There isn't all that much to say about this track. It's more of an interlude than anything. It's a jam, 100% created on the spot, I didn't even have an inkling about how it would turn out.

As mentioned before, sometimes I have a little riff I want to build out and play with, other times I just look for some very simple melody on guitar or on vocals, loop it and then start building around it.

This 2 simple guitar loops, a vocal loop and then various vocal effects on top with some extra guitar towards the end.

I think it leads well into the last two tracks of the live album.
