ThreeTuneTuesday - Grungers

Hello music lovers! 🎵

It's Tuesday, time for #threetunetuesday and a chance for me to share a bit of music history. For those of you who already know it might be interesting (or not), for those of you who don't, if you like, browse the web for more.

For those of you who are not (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt - these are tags you need to set when you post.
It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the jist is as follows:

Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs which I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the prize.

For today's #ttt, I've decided to choose three songs in the grunge genre. Why, I was listening to the radio this morning as I was driving to work, it's the 30th anniversary of the death of one of the singers from the bands mentioned below...

Do you know what grunge is? I'll be very brief. It's a genre of music that emerged in the early 1990s as a kind of fusion of heavy metal rock with punk and distorted guitars, at a time when electronic disco music was still ruling the charts. It sounded like a kind of "solution" for all the rockers who swore by guitars.
It first appeared in Seattle, USA, which became the cradle for this kind of music, and from there, it spread first in America and then globally. The record label SubPop also played a big role in the spread of this grunge wave.

I became aware of grunge after watching the 1992 romantic comedy Singles, directed by Cameron Crowe and starring Bridget Fonda, Campbell Scott, Kyra Sedgwick, and Matt Dillon. In this film, I was drawn to the music more than the content, namely the use of the initial grunge hysteria as the soundtrack. And then I started looking into the genre.

So I chose three bands, I didn't choose Nirvana, I didn't choose Pearl Jam because everybody knows them... I wanted some less well-known bands but then it turned out that the ones I chose are not less well-known either, they have a lot of views on YT...

🎵 🎧 🎤

Soundgarden - Rusty Cage

Soundgarden was an American band from Seattle, formed in 1984 and active until 2017 when frontman Chris Cornell committed suicide. They were one of the first grunge bands with their fast and uncompromising guitar music. Not very successful at the beginning, but when Nirvana became a worldwide sensation, they came after them.
In the 90s I was quite involved in editing videos for local bands and of course, I was looking for role models. Soundgarden had the top videos for me.
I mean, I wanted one other song (Jesus Christ Pose) but that one, Rusty Cage, is still great to me after all these years, and, also, Johnny Cash has a cover.

🎵 🎧 🎤

Alice In Chains - Would?

Alice In Chains is also from Seattle, formed in 1987, and belongs to the grunge movement, with a distinctly more heavy metal than punk feel. Their biggest success is considered to be their 1992 album Dirt, which went 4x platinum. After the death of lead singer Layne Staley in 2002, they changed members and are still playing now with somewhat less success. They have released six albums.
I chose the song Would?, because it's from the movie Singles, and won the 1993 MTV Video Music Award for Best Video from a movie.

🎵 🎧 🎤

Screaming Trees - Nearly Lost You

Screaming Trees were formed in 1984 in Ellensburg, USA, and were also one of the first pioneers of grunge music. Although they were intertwined with the grunge movement, their music is closer to melodic heavy metal with a touch of psychedelic. After a few singles and six less successful albums, they signed to Epic Records, a sub-label of Sony Entertainment, and in 1991 released the album Uncle Anesthesia, which finally brought them the visibility they had hoped for in the music world.
In 1992 they were about to quit, but due to their obligations to the label they had to record another album Sweet Oblivion (1992), which was later very successful and the song Nearly Lost You became a global hit. They split up in 2000, with frontman Mark Lanegan continuing his career in Queens Of Stone Age and The Gutter Twins. He went on to release 12 solo albums before his death last year.
Well, this is also the only band from this #ttt I've seen live, in 1996 in Reading, England.

Just got this message from Task.

"I've almost got the upgraded version ready, when it's done it will be in it's own app container that will restart it when crashed. So hopefully this won't happen much more."

Nice selection!

Several years back I worked at a place not even two miles from the house. Close enough to walk. I remember making a point of listening to "new to me" music on the walk and a lot of these songs appeared on various playlists. I still enjoy them!

Rocking the Grunge this week brother, I enjoyed them. There was a big grunge influence in my house growing up from my older sisters who loved these bands..
