Three Tune Tuesday - Urge Overkill

Hello, music lovers! 🎵

On #threetunestuesday, I go back to listening to music growing up and absorbing the music I had access to. And finally, a new story.
A couple of days ago, I was watching Tarantino's Pulp Fiction on a TV channel, and the music made me think of a band, Urge Overkill. I then followed the band and even watched it live once later.
I didn't watch Pulp Fiction for the first time; I watched it several times. I might even say I was impressed. It is still a classic to me, mainly because of the superb use of all the elements of cinema: the script, the framing, the visualization of the story, which is fluid even if it jumps around in time, the direction, and of course, the excellent dose of the American musical mix of the fifties and sixties.

I could go on and on, but since the topic is #ttt, I'll introduce the band Urge Overkill.

Urge Overkill is an American band formed in 1986 in Chicago. The band's name comes from the lyrics of the song 'Funkentelechy' by the band Parliament. The band's sound contains elements of punk, glam rock, and indie power pop.
They are still performing in a slightly modified line-up and have released seven albums, the last of which, Oui, was released in 2022.

Urge Overkill - Sister Havana

The song is from their fourth album, Saturation, in 1993, which made them known to a broader audience. With an energetic guitar riff in the song, they managed to attract attention, as their first three albums were not very successful commercially.

Urge Overkill - Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon

Although it was a cover of a 1967 song, they managed to have a moment of global fame with this song. It was high in the American and European charts, even higher than Neil Diamond's original. It was released on their second EP, Skull, in 1992 and was later used by Tarantino on the soundtrack of Pulp Fiction, opening the door for them to go further.

Urge Overkill - Follow My Shadow

The song is from their latest album, Oui, released in 2022, eleven years after their previous album, Rock & Roll Submarine.
This one also failed to elicit the expected reaction from the public and even less from music critics.
But Urge Overkill is still performing.

As a bonus, one Nirvana track. Why only?
As I mentioned, I saw Urge Overkill live once, supporting Nirvana on their first European tour when they weren't well known. Nirvana didn't become world-famous until about half a year later. They played a gig in Milje (Muggia), Italy, near the Slovenian border, on 16.11.1991, and the support act was Urge Overkill, which unfortunately was not recorded.
The recording consists of photographs; the sound was recorded on a cassette recorder or DAT. It was interesting at the beginning when Kris Novoselic (who is originally from Croatia) said in Croatian, Dobro večer mi smo Bijelo Dugme (in English Good evening, we are Bijelo Dugme :)
Bijelo Dugme was the most famous band in the former Yugoslavia. He probably said that because most of the people at the concert were Slovenes and Croats, there were very few Italians.
