Three Tune Tuesday - The Pretenders
Hello, music lovers! π΅
It's a Tuesday, so it's time for #threetunetuesday and a chance to share something I'm listening to.
As I've mentioned a few times before, listening to the radio while driving is often the inspiration for my #ttt posts. Today is no different.
I was driving to work this morning in the dark. It was raining, autumn had crept into the country, and I needed something, some song, to lift my mood to a more upbeat level.
And I got a dose of that.
Chrissie Hynde and Pretenders. They're a bit on the decline, but it's good to mention them. I always feel optimistic about their melodic music.
For those of you who are not (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt - these are tags you need to set when you post.
It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the jist is as follows:
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs that I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the reward.
The Pretenders are an American-British band formed in London in 1978. The only permanent member and frontwoman is Chrissie Hynde, a songwriter, and guitarist who came from Ohio, USA, in the early 1970s and saw all the early punk bands in London from the Sex Pistols, The Damned, and The Clash, always trying to collaborate with someone somewhere but not getting anywhere, so she formed her band.
They released their first album in 1980, which was immediately received very positively by listeners and music critics on both sides of the ocean. The band then continued to produce hits, although some of the members had problems with themselves and drugs, so only Chrissie and Martin Chambers, the drummer, remained of the original line-up.
They have recorded 12 albums, and some 11 singles have topped the charts, mainly in the 80s and 90s.
The Pretenders' music is very melodic and energetic. The guitar part is distinctive, usually intertwining two guitars and Chrissie's upbeat vocals, although sometimes she sings something else.
But as I mentioned at the beginning, I am always inspired by The Pretenders' music, which is optimistic and light.
I've chosen some of my favorite songs to listen to.
Pretenders - Back on the Chain Gang
The song was first released as a single in 1982, in 1983 it was featured on the soundtrack of Martin Scorsese's satirical black comedy The King Of Comedy, and in 1984 it appears on the third album Learning to Crawl.
Pretenders - Talk Of The Town
The song was a hit single, released in 1981, and was included on their second album Pretenders II. According to the RIAA, it was one of the best-selling albums of 1981.
Pretenders - Don't Get Me Wrong
The song is from their fourth album, 1986's Get Close, and was their biggest hit. Chrissie Hynde has been named by music critics in all the music magazines as one of the best songwriters of all time, and the song is, as Chrissie puts it, dedicated to her friend, tennis player John McEnroe.
And a bonus, my favourite song of theirs, in fact, when I heard this song I started following The Pretenders. It came out on the third album Learning To Crawl, in 1984.
The Pretenders - Middle Of The Road
I don't know about you, but for me these songs brightened up this rainy day. :)
That's all for today, thank you for your attention.
This is my 57th post for #threetunetuesday, which @ablaze started. I hope what I'm sharing is enjoyable for others, too, because then it makes sense.

If the combination of Chrissie Hynde and Ray Davies had worked on a human level and on a musical level, we would probably have heard an entirely different side of the American singer. UB40 and Jim Kerr are nothing but a bore. But Chrissie is, and will always be, a (living) legend.
Thanks for the selection - always a pleasure.
Yes, all these big stars are exceptional. I don't usually watch them, nor am I interested in their relationships (except for Pink Floyd, about whom I once had a whole book), but you've given me an idea for another next #ttt. π
