Three Tune Tuesday - Slade

avatar

Hello music lovers! 🎡

It's a Tuesday, time for #threetunetuesday, and a chance to share something I'm listening to.
My last post here was a week ago, and continuing with the music, I'm recalling memories from the past with you.

Today I go back a long way, to when I was in primary school, in the seventh grade, in the 1970s, and we had our first school dances. As there were also teachers present who were a few years older than us, they, usually, started to play music on records and cassettes, and, I heard something that even my parents listened to occasionally. Very noisy for those days :)

Slade was an English rock band formed in Wolverhampton in 1966.
As I mentioned, I was exposed to this music at home, interestingly enough it didn't suit me at the time, but a couple of years later, at a school dance, with the sound system turned up a bit louder, that was something, haha.
Slade were known for their energetic live performances and glamorous, glitzy look, and had a string of hits in the early seventies. Their appearance led them to be classified as so-called glam rock.

They released 16 studio albums, 17 compilations, and 6 live albums between 1966 and 1994 when their star began to fade. They played in reformed bands until 2011 but failed to gain any traction so it all came to a halt.
In those days bands released singles and Slade had in one period, 17 top 20 hits, 6 of them number one in the UK Singles Chart. Very commercially successful, certainly.

I chose to feature them mainly because of their influence on other bands such as Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Clash, Kiss, MΓΆtley CrΓΌe, Quiet Riot, Poison, Def Leppard, Cheap Trick, Twisted Sister, The Undertones, The Undertones, The Replacements, and Runaways (source).

For those of you who are not (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt - these are tags you need to set when you post.
It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the jist is as follows:

Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs that I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the reward.

🎡 🎧 🎡

To continue with the music, I have selected some of their hits.

SLADE - Get Down And Get With It

The song is actually a cover of Little Richards' Get Down With It, released in 1971, it was actually their first single on the UK Charts where it reached number 16 and lasted 14 weeks on the charts. The video is from a UK TV Show, sound remastered 2013.

🎡 🎧 🎡

Slade - Mama Weer All Crazee Now

The song was released in 1972 and reached number 1 in the UK Charts, the recording is from the TopPop show on Dutch TV and as you can see, they were already pretty full glamour here, like other bands of the time :)

🎡 🎧 🎡

Slade - My Oh My

My Oh My was released in November 1983 as the second single from The Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome album. It reached number 10 in the UK Singles Chart and number 8 in the Irish Singles Chart. It became one of the band's more recognizable songs and was played regularly at gigs. The song has been used in several films and TV shows, including The Full Monty (1997) and Shaun of the Dead (2004).

center>🎡 🎧 🎡

Well, let's have a bonus :)

Slade - Thanks For The Memory

The song was released as a single in 1975 and was also used in the 1975 film Slade In Flame, about a fictional 60s band.

That's all for today, thank you for your attention. I hope today's selection was interesting and put you in a relaxed mood like it did me :)

This is my 41st post for #threetunetuesday, which @ablaze started. I hope what I'm sharing is interesting for others too, because then it makes sense.

I am not use to this genre of music, but this actually interesting. I guess I will start listening to rock a little bit...

It certainly wasn't easy for them back then, in the early 70s. After all, there were some guys from Scotland who wore even weirder clothes and were so successful that you could get the feeling that the music world had completely descended into madness. Bay City Rollers - you should have known by then that music can do a lot of damage. Only surpassed by Take That.
So, it was nice to know that Slade were still around! πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜‰

Yes, I remember BCR, but they always seemed childish to me, like a boy band now, like you wrote, Take That. But it didn't last I don't know how long, if I remember rightly. More or less balls. At least Slade is a rock band.
