Three Tune Tuesday - Iggy Pop
Hello, music lovers! 🎵
On #threetunestuesday, I reflect on the music I listened to growing up and the music I had access to. And when something reminds me of moments from my youth, I try to relive those memories through music.
Although there hasn't been an event like this for some time, the last few bands I saw live had one thing in common - the music I heard reminded me of one of the most influential icons of the rock underground, Iggy Pop, whom I actively listened to in my younger years and who, looking back, had a significant influence on my acceptance of rock music as such. And to add to that, yesterday I was on the road all day, and they played one of his first hits on the radio.

For those of you who are not (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt - these are tags you need to set when you post. It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the jist is as follows:
Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs that I like to listen to and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the reward.
So, I had to write something about Iggy Pop, because I haven't mentioned him in #ttt yet. And I haven't written anything here in a while either. Of course, I listened to a few albums again that took me back to my crazy years when I was wondering who I was, what I was doing here, wtf was all this.
There's no point in writing much about him; you can read all about him on Wikipedia, his official website, or, as is easiest these days, ask some AI, which will give you even juicier answers 😵💫 😂😆
Basically, James Newell Osterberg Junior, or Iggy Pop, is the 'Godfather of Punk,' now also a rock music icon, a living legend, full of crazy energy, and still performing at 78. Few can do that.
He released five albums with The Stooges, then another 20 on his own. There's as much music as you want if you dig deeper.
Here are some of his songs
The Stooges - 1969
The song is from their first album, The Stooges, which sold only a few thousand copies but is now considered one of the most important and influential albums in rock history. Slightly psychedelic. It was produced by John Cale (of the Velvet Underground).
The song is about total apathy, boredom, and aimlessness.
Iggy Pop - The Passenger
The song is his biggest hit, written together with David Bowie in 1977 (when they were close friends) for the album Lust For Life. A traveler, an observer of life who sees everything but is part of nothing. Separated from everything.
Iggy & The Stooges - Burn
The song is from the third album Raw Power from 1973, when Iggy was at rock bottom, having been close to death several times.
Slow, heavy tempo with doom or black metal riffs, ending in total cacophony.
As a bonus, recorded in August this year at Way Out West 2025, a song from The Stooges' first album from 1969.
Iggy Pop - I Wanna Be Your Dog
That's all for today, thank you for your attention.
This is my 81st post for #threetunetuesday, which @ablaze started.
I hope what I'm sharing is enjoyable for others, too, because then it makes sense.
