New Tunes 4.8.2023
Hello music lovers! π΅
In this sunny, humid, and rainy summer, I took a little break from #newtunes and just listened to my old playlists for a while.
And after 20 days, I'd had enough.
I started to "sniff" again for new and interesting things from the world of music.
Here is a selection of more or less well-known artists that have been ringing in my ears for the last few days and will continue to do so over the weekend.
If you like something I'll be glad to hear it, but if you don't, feel free to skip it.

Code Orange - Take Shape (feat. Billy Corgan)
Code Orange, the American hardcore band from Pittsburgh, sometimes known as Code Orange Kids, has released a new single as a prelude to the soon-to-be-released album "The Above".
The single is called "Take Shape" and was recorded with Billy Corgan, frontman of the Smashing Pumpkins. It seems to me that they are evolving from hardcore to metal. Whether this is good or bad, time will tell. Listen.
Dogstar - Everything Turns Around
This is more of a curiosity. The American band Dogstar, which I don't really know, but I've seen that Keanu Reeves plays bass guitar in it, has announced a new album after 23 years and even a tour of the US and Japan.
They released the single Everything Turns Around as a prelude to the album "Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees".
Yeah, I had to check out the bass player, of course. Not bad at all.
The Chemical Brothers - Live Again ft. Halo Maud
Hypnotic techno pioneers The Chemical Brothers have announced a new studio album, "For That Beautiful Feeling".
Live Again is an older song but newly mixed. An instant techno classic, no less. Also love the visuals and choreography for this video. Just brilliant all round.
Christine McVie - Little Darlin' (2023 Remaster)
I believe you remember (at least older music lovers) Christina McVie, the singer of Fleetwood Mac. Sadly, she is now deceased.
In her memory, the members of Fleetwood Mac released an unreleased version of "Little Darlin'" on what would have been her 80th birthday.
Lance Lopez - Trouble Is Good
Lance Lopez is an American rocker, blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter. A new name for me. His music has been influenced by B.B. King and Jimi Hendrix for many years, and his style, let's call it Texas rock, is definitely influenced by ZZ Top.
He recently released a great album "Trouble Is Good" and the title track is full of bluesy mouth harmonica and acoustic metal from the desert.
I don't think it has any political connotations, but it's mainly about the constant struggle between good and evil, especially from a personal perspective.
Recommended.
Blur - St. Charles Square
St.Charles Square is the second single from the latest album The Ballad Of Darren. Britpop is at its best.
Crystal clear production, in this track especially stands out the squealing guitars, and the indifferent, a bit depressed vocal which with melancholy recalls the past days, clogged with huge amounts of various substances they were pushing into themselves...
Wilco - Evicted
Wilco, a very authentic in a way, country band, has announced their 13th studio album in a row, Cousin, with the new single Evicted.
A sweet, simple, almost acoustic pop song, superbly produced (Cate Le Bon), it reminds me of George Harrison's style and his dreamy harmonies.
Recommended.
Jason Aldean - Try That In A Small Town
Jason Aldean's controversial song "Try That in a Small Town", which has been publicly criticized by some artists such as Sheryl Crow and Jason Isbell for encouraging violence, reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Aldean defended his song by insisting that it's about a proud community, not a community that threatens others.
I do not know this artist, or rather I came across him when I was reading this news. At the moment (as I write this) he is at #5 on the YT global charts.
What do I know, listen and make up your own mind.

Who would have thought? Actually I prefer (if there was no Lance Lopez) Code Orange. Even though it seemed as if I had James Hedfield in my ear from time to time.
Dogstar only convince instrumentally. Vocals and lyrics destroy everything good.
You may be right. I hadn't even thought of James Hetfield. I don't listen to Metallica except for the hits. Yeah, and I only mentioned Dogstar because of Keanu Reeves. Just curious. I need to find two more bands with actors, and there will be a story for threetunes :)
