New Tunes 30.5.2025
Hello music friends! 🎶
Friday is here! And #newtunes, fresh music selection, too. What new music will we hear today from well-known and lesser-known musicians? Nothing earth-shattering, just a snippet of a global music stream that produces over 150,000 new songs every day.
In fact, it is impossible to keep track of everything. We can only choose crumbs, depending on our preferences and wishes.
Eight songs of different genres. Just by listening to them, you will support the artists. Each listening counts, if you have time for such a thing, of course.
And if you don't like something, feel free to skip it!

Bjørn Riis - Gone
Bjørn Riis is a Norwegian multi-instrumentalist from Oslo, best known as the guitarist of Airbag, which we've already mentioned here. In April, he released his fifth solo album, Fimbulvinter, a continuation of his work in progressive rock in a post-Floyd universe.
In the song "Gone," he primarily explores the freedom of social isolation and the need to escape from the established habits of life. Quite complex, huh?
Peter Doherty - The Day the Baron Died
Peter Doherty, frontman of the Libertines, has been in rehab, and his fifth album, Felt Better Alive, released a week ago, he navigates deftly between different, more acoustic styles.
It's a more subdued approach but still with a post-punk edge.
Counting Crows - Spaceman In Tulsa
Counting Crows, the Grammy-nominated and Grammy-winning American rock band from San Francisco, California, has released a new album after a ten-year hiatus, titled Butter Miracle, The Complete Sweets!
Half of it is an EP from 2021, but the other half features new songs.
It's cheerful and upbeat, and for a few minutes of listening, you'll forget all your troubles. More than solid for oldies.
Jimmy Fitzsimmons - Fake Tits
Jimmy Fitzsimmons is a band from Novi Sad, Serbia. As they say themselves, it's not an artistic project; it has no pretentiousness, just raw riffs that anyone can play within five minutes.
Dirty garage rock, half-finished, very rhythmic, and made to move your body. A real surprise for me, I recommend it.
Marc Ribot - Daddy's Trip to Brazil
Marc Ribot is an American composer and guitarist. He has been active musically since 1980 and came to the attention of the music public when he started accompanying Tom Waits on guitar. He was a member of the Lounge Lizards, founded Ceramic Dog, and is known for his multi-year collaboration with John Zorn.
Last week, he released his twenty-seventh album, "Map Of A Blue City," which is primarily a reflection of his younger years, focusing more on vocals and lyrics than guitar.
Pink Floyd - One of These Days (Live at Pompeii - MCMLXXII - 2025 Mix)
As a fan, a month ago, Pink Floyd, or rather the team behind them that keeps the money flowing, restored and re-released Adrian Maben's iconic 1972 concert recording, Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii. Steve Wilson signs the new mix. The film, or rather the concert, has to be seen in its entirety; it is already playing in cinemas.
The song "One of These Days," from the album Meddle (1971), is one of the songs played in the ruins of the amphitheater. There is a recording on YouTube, but it only features a drummer, so I decided to use the soundtrack audio instead. Progressive ambient rock in all its glory.
DUBMONES feat. Alpheus & Ranking Joe - Sheena Is A Rudie Now
Dubmones is a German band from Hamburg, recording for the dub label Echo Beach, doing covers, and wondering what the Ramones would sound like if they had been made in Kingston instead of New York?
The answer is the excellent Tribute to the Ramones, which I highly recommend.
Barker - Reframing
Sam Barker is an electronic musician and composer. Based in Berlin since 2018, he has released five EPs and two albums to date, most recently, Stochastic Drift, at the end of April. On this album, as the title suggests, he explores stochastic processes in music production and the deconstruction of dance music, particularly ambient and techno.
The song "Reframing" is a single from the new album, an ambient techno track that can be compared to Floyd's "One Of These Days" from over fifty years earlier.
🎶That's all for today, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!

I would normally much rather leave the flying to my chickens. But there will be an exception today. Your airline ‘Seckorama Supersonic’ is offering me the musical trip from Hexham (Pete Doherty), via San Francisco (Counting Crows) to Newark (Mark Ribot). A blind booking is made in complete confidence. I will of course also use the two stopovers in Novi Sad and Hamburg for a city stroll. (Although the reggae from northern Germany takes a little getting used to).
I think I could make one good book out of all your comments on #newtunes :)
