New Tunes 28.3.2025
Hello, music friends! 🎶
Friday and fresh music are here, the latest #newtunes selection for all tastes!
Eight songs from different genres have marked my week and will continue to resonate throughout the weekend and beyond. Some well-known and lesser-known artists crawled towards the top of the musical pedestal. But will they make it? There might even be a hit among them.
You can spend a few minutes on these tunes, some of which are light and tuneful, others musically complex.
If you don't like something, skip it.

The Cacks - Remedy
The Cacks is a band with Irish roots. It's new to me. I don't know exactly when they started playing, but given the musical virtuosity of the members and the remarkable harmony of the vocals I've heard, it was probably a long time ago. But we are still waiting for their debut album. Apparently, it's called Celebrity, and it will be released in April. Until then, Remedy.
Maddie Ashman - Dark
Maddie Ashman is a composer and multi-instrumentalist from London, UK. She is a new name for me. She caught my attention with her intriguing microtonal intonation and extraordinary vocal and guitar interpretation in the song Dark. And even live in the studio.
Believe me, not everyone can do that. Is this the new age of acoustic guitar and vocals? Her second album, Otherworld, is officially released today.
My Morning Jacket - Everyday Magic
My Morning Jacket, a band from Louisville, Kentucky, has been active for over 25 years. Their rock music is sometimes experimental, heavy, psychedelic, and nostalgic. Last month, they released their tenth album, 'Is,' which continues to take them down a familiar path, a shade softer but still listenable.
The song Everyday Magic is the lead single from the new album.
AVANTASIA - Creepshow
Avantasia is the project of German power metal singer Tobias Sammet, lead singer of the band Edguy, who has come up with a tenth album called Here Be Dragons. It is slick symphonic or operetta metal rock with excellent production, sumptuous, even kitsch arrangements, multi-vocal singing, and breakneck metal solos. We heard something similar in the best years of Meat Loaf. But people (apparently) love it, and the band's fans are growing!
Alison Krauss - Looks Like The End Of The Road
Alison Krauss, best known to me for her collaboration with Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin, in case anyone doesn't know), is an American bluegrass-country singer, violinist, and record producer. Her fifteenth album, Arcadia, is released today with the help of her previous backing band, Union Station.
The opening song of the new album, "Looks Like The End Of The Road," is a pleasant and nostalgic ballad backed by a great soundtrack, very suitable for the after-party of a lifetime.
Kim Deal - Big Ben Beat
I have mentioned Kim Deal, the legend of The Pixies, several times recently, so I won't bore you with the who, what, and where.
Big Ben Beat is the third single from her latest solo album, which was released last November. The song is darker than usual, paranoid, and hypnotic, standing out with intense and gritty guitar riffs and a pounding beat.
Now, some of the freshest music I've heard this week is from the Balkans. It's superb, of course.
Balkan Zoo & Nina Ćorić - Romano Horo
And that's something for fans of Gipsy Sound. Nina Ćorić is a flamenco singer from Zagreb, and Balkan Zoo is a group of musicians who have been playing so-called Gipsy jazz for more than a decade. Their collaboration resulted in the second album, Muzika za ples (Music for Dance in English).
On their debut album, Recycle, they played old Gipsy classics in jazz arrangements, but this album is more progressive world music.
This is more proof that flamenco has influenced (and will continue to) songs from the collective memory of the Balkan Peninsula. I believe that klezmer music is the primary source of the Balkans' melodies and tunes, but obviously, there are other influences. I highly recommend the previous and new albums to everyone.
Rambo Amadeus - U dobra stara vremena
Rambo Amadeus is one of the first crazy and, I would say, legendary rappers from the Balkans. The song 'U dobra stara vremena' (In Good Old Times in English) was released two days ago; it could be a prelude to a new album. The song is about the cancer of the region, about the transmission of misconceptions, bad habits, frustrations, and, ultimately, aggression from parents to children, from generation to generation.
Brass instruments like guitar riffs hold up the soundscape, which works monumentally nostalgically. The verses are very cynical, a mix of Rambo and Monty Python.
🎶That's all for today, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!

This is a sampling of music I have never heard before. I had to skip Maddie Ashman, not my cup of tea, but some of the others were enjoyable. Thank you for sharing these! !BBH
I'm glad you like the content. It's also true that Maddie Ashman is more difficult to listen to and is mainly appreciated by classical musicians and composers.

Thanks for the songs Hive DJ
Haha, you're welcome! 😎
Evo :)
Cool stuff is - I have not heard about any of them yet - need to time to listen to all.
I'm glad you're interested in it. Take your time. 🎶😎
