Could one of them become the next global smash?
Only one way to find out… listen :)

Eight fresh songs for curious music lovers!

Sepia Jazz Band - TĂ© para dos (Tea for two)

It’s been a while since I mentioned a band in #newtunes that also has members on the Hive social network. The Sepia Jazz Band hails from Guayaquil, Ecuador. A new band, @pechichemena, mentioned that they’ve just finished their debut album of the same name. They blend gypsy jazz and swing with elements of bolero, bossa nova, and other Latin American influences.
The song “Té para dos” (Tea for Two) is a cover of the classic jazz standard by [Vincent Youmans and Irving Caesar] from 1924. A romantic, nostalgic, and optimistic love song.
You can listen to the entire album on Spotify.

Gwenifer Raymond - Jack Parsons Blues (Live on KEXP)

Gwenifer Raymon is a new name to me. She hails from Cardiff, Wales, UK. She is an exceptional guitarist who creates music in the American primitive guitar or dark Americana genres. She has released three albums to date.
The song "Jack Parsons Blues" is from her latest album, Last Night I Heard the Dog Star Bark, released in 2025. Inspired by Jack Parsons, an American rocket engineer, and his friends, the occultist Aleister Crowley and sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard. A dark, mystical, fingerpicking track with a mysterious atmosphere. I’ll be following her work. The entire KEXP concert is exceptional; I highly recommend giving it a listen.

Dead Can Dance - Mon Amour Sauvage

Dead Can Dance, known for their epic, mystical atmosphere and active since 1981 (10 studio albums), is a band I used to listen to quite a bit, though a little less lately. Well, they aren’t releasing much these days either.
“Mon Amour Sauvage” is their new single, released a week ago. An ethereal, organic sound - neoclassical darkwave with a touch of gothic. A pagan love song dedicated to Mother Nature.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Liminal - The Crop

Liminal is an Australian band from Lismore; they’ve been playing since 2021 and have released three albums so far. A new name for me - experimental psych rock - often compared to King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard (which is why I listened to them).
The song “The Crop” is their new single, released last week. Distorted guitars and synths, groovy, weird, and humorous psych rock that uses a metaphor (“weed in the crop”) to talk about the feeling of being unwanted in society. I’ll be keeping an eye on them.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Little Barrie - Luggin' Hurt

Little Barrie is an English band from Nottingham, UK, that has been playing since 2000. They have released six albums to date. In my opinion, they’ve been very underrated, but now, with a new record label, they’ve started to gain some attention from music critics and the public.
They play a mix of British rock, American soul, and psychedelia, with influences from the 1960s and 1970s (Cream, Traffic). It’s guitar-driven boogie with a strong rhythm and a retro vibe.
The song “Luggin’ Hurt” is a single from the new album Gravity Freeze, released today on the Easy Eye Sound label.

🎵 🎧 🎵

BALTHVS - Eternal Flow (Live Session)

This is also brand new, released just yesterday. I added them because I’m a fan of this Colombian band from Bogotá. They’ve been playing for six years, touring the world for the last three, and are highly regarded in the psychedelic funk/psych rock scene. An atmospheric, hypnotically danceable sound; they’re often compared to Kruangbin but have a stronger Latin American, particularly Colombian, influence.
The song “Eternal Flow” is the first single and a preview of their new, sixth album, Manifest, which is set for release in October. Rich guitars, deep bass, and a soothing organic energy.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Opus Kink - The Sweet Goodbye

I’ve mentioned Opus Kink, a six-piece band from Brighton, UK, a few times in #newtunes. They’ve been active for nine years, but it’s only now, for the month of July, that they’re announcing their first studio album, The Sweet Goodbye. A fusion of various genres and styles, they’re described as “horn-fuelled filth-funk, where punk and jazz combine in grimy circumstances.”
In recent years, they’ve been one of the most acclaimed British bands, praised by both music critics and enthusiastic fans alike, especially for their explosive live performances. I hope I’ll have the chance to see them live.
The song is the title track of their self-titled debut album.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Knats - Never Gonna Be A Boxer (Official Video)

Knats are from Newcastle, UK; they’ve been active for four years and have released two albums. A new name to me. They play what’s known as Geordie jazz, a fusion of jazz with strong influences from club music, breakbeats, funk, and Afrobeat. Slightly different from the London jazz scene.
The song “Never Gonna Be A Boxer” is a single from their second album, A Great Day In Newcastle, which was released in late April. It’s a standard, high-energy jazz-breakbeat track with post-punk energy and a reflection on masculinity, social pressure, and accepting that you can’t be everything.
