Hello, music lovers! 🎶

This weekend, we have a new #newtunes selection of music to enjoy. There haven't been as many new releases this week as previous weeks. Both well-known and lesser-known or even unknown (yet) musicians need some rest.
But that's perfectly okay.

Check out these eight recommendations across different genres. You're bound to find something you'll love and want to listen to all weekend.
Feel free to skip anything you're not into.

The Smile - Don't Get Me Started

The trio of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner has released two albums since their formation in 2021 and is now back with a new single, released a week or so ago. Since I mentioned that The Smile is one of the world's top concert attractions a year ago, I've been keeping up with what they're releasing. I think Thom, the master of polyrhythm, has created something new again.

The Dandy Warhols - The Summer of Hate

Being a fan of the band, I took the liberty (permission?). to post the third single from their latest album, ROCKMAKER, which I think is very good. I've been following them for years; they're not unknown, but I still think they're among the underrated bands and deserve more.
The title of the song, The Summer of Hate, is quite relevant to this strange summer.

Straight Arrows - Walking Through My Mind

Straight Arrows is a band from Sidney, Australia. They have been playing since 2007 and have released several EPs and four albums. The latest, Surface World, was released last week.
It's mostly 60s garage rock with a touch of punk. My favorite is the song Walking Through My Mind, which leans more toward a psychedelic sound. It was released as a single a year ago and is included on the new album.

Ekuka Morris Sirikit - TTEC ME OT JOK

Ekuka Morris Sirikiti, from Lira, Uganda, is a renowned griot (or vocalist) whose voice and instrument, the lukeme (or thumb piano), has been echoing on Ugandan radio for many years. I was attracted to him when I read that he has never had any device that plays music. Can you imagine that?
The Ugandan label Nyege Nyege Music, known for its unique blend of local and global world music, decided to re-record his hits from 1978 to 2003 and released his archival debut album TE-KWARO ALANGO-EKUKU.
The album features minimalist music with vocals and the lukeme, an instrument I heard for the first time. Its hypnotic rhythm, combined with the scenes from Uganda, draws you in and keeps you engaged.

Luis Cole - Life

Luis Cule is a drummer, composer, and vocalist based in Los Angeles. He has been active for over 15 years and has showcased his versatility by collaborating with many artists and releasing five albums.
He has also engaged the classical Metropole Orkest in his latest, Nothing. This is a rarity: orchestral dance music, slightly jazzy with surreal lyrics. As someone wrote:

Nothing is a deep dive into the mind of a weird and wonderful musician, with the Dutch orchestra (and chorale!) providing the aural canvas.

Rosie Lowe - In My Head

Rosie Lowe is a singer from London, UK. She's been singing since 2016 and experimenting a lot, and today, she released her fourth album, Lover, Other. In this one, she focuses more on dance music than her previous albums.
Fresh and cool funk groove and soul will undoubtedly interest the genre's followers.

Kanonenfieber - Panzerhenker

Kanonenfieber is a German black death metal project led by an anonymous musician known as Noise. The band was formed in 2020 and has released two EPs and one album. They are currently preparing to release a new album titled "Die Urkatastrophe" (translated as "the primordial catastrophe") in September. The band draws inspiration from the experiences of soldiers during World War I, as well as their writings and testimonies reflecting the harsh realities of that time.

D.Tiffany - Off Our Heads And Off The Grid

Sophie Sweetland, known as D. Tiffany, is a Vancouver-based producer, DJ, and electronic musician who has been working and creating in the techno hub of Berlin for the past few years. She has released three albums, most recently Bass Philosophy, at the end of June this year. The album is made for the dancefloor, the music is typically minimalist, bass-driven and full of trance, deep house and electro influences, sometimes interspersed with bits of ambient, perfect for the world of underground rave culture.
The title of the song Off Our Heads And Off The Grid says it all. It transforms from a minimalist tech step into a glitchy tech-house banger full of rhythmic drums, in which you can lose yourself. Of course, this applies to techno fans. Those who don't accept it won't be touched.
