Hello, music lovers! šŸŽ¶

Summer is around the corner, and as usual, I've put together #newtunes again, a selection of new releases from well-known, lesser-known, and (as yet) unknown musicians, spanning across various genres such as pop, rock, indie, and more, for you to listen to over the sunny weekend and beyond.
Each of them deserves at least a few minutes of our attention if nothing else.

Among these artists, a future global star could be waiting to be discovered. The thrill of potentially finding the next big thing is part of the excitement of exploring new music.

If you enjoy something, explore further; if not, move on.

Eminem - Houdini

Eminem, the notorious rapper, has reactivated after four years. With Houdini, the lead single from his new twelfth album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De GrĆ¢ce).
Houdini is rapidly climbing the charts, with over 68 million streams on YouTube. Attentive listeners will notice that the song is a mash-up and adaptation of the 1982 hit Abracadabra by the American Steve Miller Band, which Eminem dropped (or was it elevated?) to the level of a mainstream media hit.

Bon Jovi - Living Proof

A week ago, the legendary rockers Bon Jovi released their 16th studio album, Forever. The single 'Living Proof' is the way they celebrated their longevity and 40th anniversary. The music is in the range you can expect from this band.
By the way, Jon Bon Jovi, the frontman, was recently named Person of the Year at the 66th Grammy Awards. That counts for something, too.

Adam Ben Ezra feat Michael Olivera - Cosmic Nomad

ABE, or Adam Ben Ezra, is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, composer, and teacher from Tel Aviv. He is best known in the music world for his acoustic bass playing, especially for his viral bass covers of world hits. A few days ago, I read on Twitter that he was about to release a new album with Cuban drummer Michael Olivera.
The song Cosmic Nomad is a prelude to a new joint project. It has a superb groove and exceptional rhythm, melody, and improvisation performance. Highly recommended!

Groundsound - Trod

Groundsound is a duo from Kingston, Jamaica. It's a new name for me. Their debut album, Working Progress, was released at the end of February. It explores how African alienation has been preserved in rhythm and memory in the Jamaican hinterland.
They call themselves Afrofuturist message-driven reggae, dancehall, broken beat music where memory meets magic and decolonial meets dub.

Still Corners - Today is the Day

Still Corners, the British-American dream pop duo, released their sixth album, Dream Talk, to critical and widespread acclaim in April. The album's unique, at-first-sight recognizable, unadulterated melancholy simply oozes from each of the songs, offering a familiar and refreshingly unique sound.
Writing pop music can be a curse for songwriters. The initial recognition creates additional demands to maintain quality and public interest. Only a chosen few can stay firmly in that saddle, which, in my opinion, Still Corners certainly do.
I recommend the whole album to fans of the genre.

King Hannah - New York, Let's Do Nothing

King Hannah is a British band from Liverpool that has been active since 2019. I didn't know them, but @w74 mentioned them to me, and I thanked him. They've released six albums, the latest Big Swimmer last month. It has a "dirty" guitar sound, powerful riffs, and solos that remind me of the 80s underground, with great lyricsā€”actually poetry by the vocalist Hannah.
I chose the song 'New York, Let's Do Nothing' for the showcase. In it, Hannah feels like a fish in water, and Lou Reed is floating somewhere in the background.

The Jesus Lizard - Hide & Seek

The Jesus Lizard is an American rock band that has been active (with occasional breaks) since 1987. Twenty-six years later, they have decided to release their seventh album, Rack, which will be out this September. The song Hyde and Seek is the first single from the new album.
After all these years, they are still legends of the American independent underground music scene and are cited as influences by many newer bands.

Oren Ambarchi, Johan Berthling, Andreas Werliin - en

And finally, the telepathic, indeed cosmic, journey of Oren Ambarchi, the Australian composer and multi-instrumentalist who, together with bassist Johan Berthling and percussionist Andreas Werliin, released the album Ghosted II at the end of April.
Together, they experiment and use their instruments to explore entirely new musical forms in fusion, polyrhythmic skeletons, and ambient pastorals, where nothing sounds like what we are used to.

šŸŽ¶That's all for today, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!

The story moves too fast for me (I'm from a different time). I had to watch it a couple of times to understand what he wanted to say. It's good, yes, appropriate for the time.

As is (almost) always the case, a few words about the new releases.
Eminem - Think what you want about the man from Detroit, but he knows how to put words into rap like nobody else.
But who does he give the coup de grace to here? Slim Shady, who he once brought to life himself?
But it doesn't work without a little violence anyway.
Bon Jovi - Even without Richie Sambora, Bon Jovi sounds like Bon Jovi.
And that's not going to change, even if he has to lean on his guitar.
Adam Ben Ezra - Who doesn't know the game of "Hide and Seek"?
Only here you don't have to look far to find great music. Top class!
Groundsound - Finally, someone who gives reggae a new musical interpretation. You can't help but wonder if you're in Jamaica or Ethiopia?
Still Corners - I am torn between my expectations.
Will John Wayne ride by on his horse or is it just Lana Del Rey?
Ambarchi & Co - The track you have chosen is largely "carried" by Andreas Werliin. The whole album reflects the wonderful dynamics of all involved. Absolutely worth listening to!
