Hello, music lovers! šŸŽ¶

New music for the weekend and beyond is here! Selection of new songs, #newtunes, from well-known and lesser-known artists that I've been listening to this week and have stuck in my ears.
Maybe there's even a future global hit here? You won't know unless you listen :)

Eight songs of different genres. If you like to explore fresh music vibrations, you can listen to it. If you want something, you might dig deeper, which will make me happy.

If you don't like something, skip it.

Night Tapes - Storm

We'll start with Night Tapes, a London-based trio that has been active since 2019 and has released several EPs so far, with their first album, 'portals//polarities', expected at the end of September. They caught the attention of music critics with their disco covers, which sound much deeper and more intimate.
The song Storm is a single that heralds their debut. Melancholic and catchy dreampop, it's hard to hear anything more dreamy in this style.

Etceteral - Gesualdo

Etceteral is a Slovenian trio from Ljubljana that has been active since the beginning of the decade. They have released three albums to date, the latest being Kimatika, which was released last week.
Baritone saxophone, percussion, and synths guide us through diverse soundscapes, intertwining simple rhythmic patterns into complex vibrations.
Incidentally, the term "kimatika," as the album is called, refers to the changing forms of matter on a vibrating base. Each frequency has its own form, each sound its own image, each piece its own visual expression.

DEATHHAMMER - Stygian Lust

Deathhammer is a Norwegian duo from Hamar, active since 2011, who have released six albums to date, the latest being Crimson Dawn at the end of April this year.
They are known as the rabid dogs of blackened speed thrash metal and cultivate the old-school sound of primitive thrash bands, faithful to hysterical speed, vicious solos, and hellish screams. The sound of the guitars is sharp as a blade, the riffs are dense, with fast drum rhythms and screeching vocals. A pure classic of the genre for fans.

Racing Mount Pleasant - Tenspeed (Shallows)

Racing Mount Pleasant is an American indie band from Michigan that has been active since 2022. They were first called Kingfisher, but then changed their name. In July, they released their second album of the same name. The songs are based on indie post-rock and progressive folk and deal with inner emotional uncertainty.
The song Teenspeed (Shallows) is about change, leaving the old behind, and transitioning into a new life.

Kerala Dust - The Orb, TX

Kerala Dust is an English band from London that migrates and creates between Berlin, Zurich, Rome, and Austin. I've been following them for about three years now, and I'm becoming more and more enthusiastic about them.
Their third album, An Echo Of Love, was released at the end of August. From the Lou Reed-esque or Tom Waits-esque narratives and atmospheric sound of their previous albums, they have developed a hybrid of electro Americana, full of rhythm and catchy riffs with a touch of krautrock.
The song The Orb, TX, speaks of the fickle nature of emotions that are like waves passing through the soul. A hypnotic rhythm and a mixture of psychedelic blues. I recommend the whole album.

SABABA 5 - VU

Sababa 5 is an Israeli band from Tel Aviv, formed in 2020, with four albums released to date, the latest being 'Nadir' in July of this year. The band is a new name for me, and I will be following them closely. Instrumental music, psychedelic and cinematic noir neo-soul, a mix of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern rhythms. They belong somewhere in the same group as Latin American Hermanos Gutiérrez, Texans Kruangbin, or Turkish-Dutch Altın Gün. Maybe they even surpass them. I recommend them.

Vodenkonj - Driving With My Cock

Vodenkonj, or Hyppo in English, is a new alternative/post-rock band from Osijek, Croatia. They are not newcomers to the music scene, but individuals who have been playing in local Osijek bands for a decade with varying degrees of success. Their first album, Lugarski put II, was released last week in August. It's a new band, and I might even see them perform at the local club where I record.
The members come from different genres, but everything is geared towards fast, sharp, and uncompromising rock 'n' roll.

David Byrne - The Avant Garde

Most music lovers are probably familiar with David Byrne, an American musician, composer, and director, if not as the frontman of the legendary band Talking Heads, which was active from 1975 to 1991. He later turned his attention to various arts, while also regularly releasing music. He has released 11 solo albums featuring numerous other musicians. His latest, Who Is the Sky, was released last week. He still sticks to his style of storytelling in an allegorical and humorous way, this time about New York and life in it.
I find the song The Avant Garde interesting because it actually pokes fun at the high art he created over the years.

šŸŽ¶That's all for today, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!
