Girl Tones - Burnout
Girl Tones is a rock duo from Los Angeles consisting of two sisters with classical music training. They started playing rock music eight years ago, initially performing at local bars. A new name for me. We are still waiting for their debut album.
Burnout is their fifth single, released a month ago, an explosive mix of indie sound and garage guitars, and talks about the exhaustion of modern life, when you constantly produce until you burn out. I will continue to follow them because they are worth paying attention to.
My First Time - Bodybag
My First Time is a band from Bristol, UK. They have been playing together since 2021 and have attracted the attention of music critics and listeners alike with their energetic live performances and sharp, humorous criticism of modern society. They are new to me, and I am waiting for their first album, which will be released in early 2026. Musically, they are in the post-punk genre, with elements of indie rock, such as Idles, Yard Act, or early Arctic Monkeys.
Bodybag is their third single, released at the end of October, dark and provocative, talking about a deal with the devil and the moral dilemmas of quick fame and success.
Trashy pop-punk with beefed-up guitar riffs and a driving rhythm.
Tortoise - Oganesson
Tortoise hails from Chicago, Illinois, USA. They have been creating music since the early 1990s. They are considered pioneers of post-rock for their blending of genres and experimental music, and their subsequent influence on the indie, jazz, and electronic scenes. To date, they have released nine albums, the latest being 'Touch', released at the end of October this year. This is their first record after a nine-year hiatus.
The song Oganesson is instrumental and abstract, symbolizing instability and experimentation. Complex post-rock rhythms with elements of funk, jazz, and krautrock build tension and release it through improvisation. I recommend the entire album.
Turbo Trans Turisti - Moj Duh
Turbo Trans Turisti is a band from Belgrade, Serbia, formed in 2017. I mentioned them recently in #newtunes, mainly because of their excellent third album 'VaΕΎan i Veliki' (Important and Big in English).
Here is a new single from the album, 'Moj Duh' (My Spirit, in English), a call for perseverance and rebellion against the oppression of lies and chaos. It draws on Serbian street protests and political unrest of the last few years. Alter rock with powerful and precise guitar riffs, solid drums, with nuances of kraut and synths. At times, they remind me of the Flaming Lips.
Julian Lage - Opal
Julian Lage is an American guitarist and composer from Santa Rosa, California. He was a child prodigy, performing publicly with his guitar at the age of six, and at fifteen he became a lecturer at the Stanford Jazz Workshop. He is known as one of the exceptional guitarists who combines jazz, folk, rock, and classical music. He also has several Grammy nominations.
The song Opal is the opening track of the new album Scenes from Above, which will be released in January next year. It is a beautiful, thoughtful melody without a traditional solo, supported by the other instruments' superb mastery.
Converge - Love Is Not Enough
Converge is an American band from Salem, Massachusetts, and has been playing since 1990. They are pioneers of metalcore, a genre that combines hardcore punk, extreme metal, and complex rhythms. To date, they have released 10 studio albums.
The song 'Love is Not Enough' is the first single from their upcoming album, set for release in February next year. The lyrics explore the fragility of love amid a cruel reality, accepting bitter truths, and maintaining empathy despite hostility. It's an aggressive metalcore song with fast dissonant guitar riffs, relentless drums, and screaming vocals. Fans of the genre will definitely like it.
David Byrne - T Shirt
David Byrne, better known to older generations as the frontman of Talking Heads, has a keen sense of humor and irony. He is currently on tour in the US promoting his new album 'Who Is the Sky?', and every night he also performs a new song called 'T-Shirt'. He has now released a video for the song and publicly announced that he wrote it with Brian Eno.
The video is simple and shows a montage of T-shirts with interesting slogans.
Depeche Mode - Ghosts Again (Live in Mexico City)
Finally, Depeche Mode has just released a live album and concert film, Memento Mori: Mexico City, which was recorded at a concert. The song Ghosts Again clearly shows that Depeche Mode are icons of a particular era, with Dave Gahan's vocals coming to the fore. It reminded me of a comparison with a neo-romantic Frank Sinatra.
πΆ That should be all for today, thanks for your attention, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!

Great choice of songs to start the weekend. I don't know any of them, but I'll look them up.
Thanks, enjoy the music weekend. πΆ
I only knew Converge and Depeche Mode. By the way, it had been a while since I'd listened to them, and I'm glad you brought them back into my memory! I also appreciate you sharing the other groups so we can discover them!
Bright hugs!
Thanks. Yes, they're the most well-known here. The first few bands are new for me, too.
