The Hives - Legalize Living

I've mentioned The Hives, a Swedish band, a couple of times before, most recently a couple of weeks ago when they announced their new album "The Hives Forever Forever the Hives," which will be released in August. Here is the second single from the album, "Legalize Living."
Old garage punkers, but freshened, cleaned, and polished as they should be, they still insist on their fast rhythms and melodic vocals. This time, pop punk is at its best.

🎵 🎧 🎵

KATATONIA - Lilac

Another Swedish band, Katatonia, is from Stockholm. They belong to the heavy metal scene, having formed in 1991, and have released 13 albums to date. The last one, "Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State," was a month ago.
Musically, they have come full circle in all genres, styles, and sub-genres of metal in these thirty-five years, from death to doom. The new album is also a blend of everything they've done so far, with an emphasis on melancholic melodics. Fans will undoubtedly be satisfied.

🎵 🎧 🎵

HEIHAIZI - PARTY PEOPLE

Heihaizzi is a duo from Zagreb, Croatia. Big & Deep is their second album, released two weeks ago. A crossover of fast punk and rap, it's light and fresh, like a cold can of beer for these summer days.
Simple but sophisticated guitar riffs and unpretentious lyrics that brighten up hot summer nights when we need to move and have fun.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Asteroid B-612 - Bending Bars

Asteroid B-612 is an Australian underground rock'n'roll band formed in 1992. They were active until 2004, releasing four albums. Very underrated.
After twenty-five years, they have reconvened out of sheer desire to play music and recorded a new album, "Roads, Stars," which was released in June of this year.
Classic guitar chords, locomotive drumming, and raw and witty vocals like the best days when they were cruising and touring Australia and America. Highly recommended.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Lullahush - Maggie na bhFlaitheas

Lullahush is the project of Irish musician Daniel McIntyre, in which he develops a dialogue between Irish folk tradition and contemporary experimental electronica production. Ithaca is his second album in this direction, released at the end of April this year.
Maggie on bhFlaitheas is the single from this album which captures the essence. Celtic harps meet resonant basses and blowing flutes, along with echoes and variations of synths and drones. A compelling and cohesive musical form of old and new.

🎵 🎧 🎵

YHWH Nailgun - Blackout

YHWH Nailgun is a group from New York, active since 2020. A new discovery for me. They are into percussion-oriented experimental rock, and at the end of March this year, they released their debut album, 45 pounds.
The song Stickle Walk reflects the style or genre, whatever you want to call it, in which they experiment. A chaotic and dense cacophony of disparate components: a heavily distorted and reverberating bass, a demonically dissonant synthesizer chained to a repeating chain, and the whispering vocals of enigmatic lyrics. They'll be touring Europe from October onwards, and if they're anywhere near, I'll try to see and hear them live.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Knives - THE DAGGER

Knives is a six-piece band from Bristol, UK. Formed in 2022, they caught the attention of music critics the following year. A new name for me.
This February, they released their debut album Glitter.
The music is a conglomeration of American hardcore, nu metal, and experimental noise. The lyrics are politically engaged, sharp and uncompromising, plumbing the depths of misery, warning of the rise of extremism, and holding up mirrors to the chosen few. It would be worth seeing them if they are performing anywhere nearby.
I recommend listening to the whole album.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Dropkick Murphys - Who'll Stand With Us?

Dropkick Murphys is an American band from Quincy, Massachusetts, that has been playing Celtic punk since 1996. They have always been politically engaged, releasing 13 albums, some of which have been successful, while others have not. In fact, when they had no one or nothing to fight against, the music was worse.
The new, 13th album, released this year, last week, For The People, is one of those albums, when they again have a cause to fight for the working class against the exploiters represented by the current ruling clique in the USA.

🎶That's all for today, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!

Not necessarily my kind of music - but all far better than 5 minutes of Marko Perković Thompson.
