Hello, music friends! ๐ŸŽถ

Friday is here, and so is #newtunes! What's better than enjoying the spring sunshine and listening to music?
If you don't know what to listen to, here's fresh music from famous and lesser-known musicians. There might even be some world hits in there because you never know.

Eight songs in different styles to brighten up your Friday, your weekend, and the whole week ahead. If you have a few minutes to spare, you can afford to listen because by doing so, you are supporting musicians, especially those who are just starting in music.
If something is not to your taste, skip it.

Orbital & Tilda Swinton - Deepest

We'll start with Orbital, electronic music veterans on the scene since 1989, announcing with the single Deepest the remaster of their 1993 album Orbital 2 (Brown Album). The new edition will be released at the end of May and include a few additional songs. The eccentric actress Tilda Swinson provides vocals on Deepest.
It could be retro for some, but for me, it's a smooth and fluid modern electronic sound that clings to the 90s techno and ambient traditions.

Yazz Ahmed - Waiting For The Dawn

Yazz Ahmed is a British-Bahraini trumpeter and composer who emigrated to London with her parents during the Gulf War. She says she has spent her entire career seeking a balance between her Bahraini roots and cosmopolitan London. With her fourth album, A Paradise in the Hold, released at the end of February, she has finally succeeded, say music insiders, creating a fusion with elements of New England groovy jazz and the sonically rich traditional melos of the Persian-Arab Gulf.

Mark Pritchard & Thom Yorke - Gangsters

I haven't mentioned Thom Yorke for two whole months, haha, but he's popped up again on my aggregated music news with Mark Prichard, the British DJ and producer :)
I mention him a lot, and it's true. I might even be biased, but he's one of the most incredible live music creatives at the moment.
Together, they will release their debut album, Tall Tales, in May. I understand there will also be a film or, rather, an aesthetic visual abstraction. The trailer for the film is here if anyone is interested in the details.

Ukandanz - War Pigs

uKanDanZ is an Ethiopian-French band that has been inspiring since 2010 by combining Ethiopian groove with radical sounds, from free jazz to hardcore and post-punk to noise and math rock. Their sixth album, Evil Plan, will be released next week. And now we have the cult War Pigs, a reworking of Black Sabbath, to taste.
The song is sung in Amharic, so we don't know if it mentions generals, witches, or black masses in the lyrics. It is still a good example of an Ethiopian singer singing one of heavy metal's greatest anthems in his language. Recommended.

Saya Gray - PUDDLE (OF ME)

Saya Gray is a Canadian musician of Japanese roots who has played in various backing bands since she was a teenager. In 2022, she decided to strike out on her own, releasing 19 Masters, an album that signaled her sense of experimentation with guitar sounds from the folk and country domains.
This February, she turned over a new leaf with the album Saya, where her lo-fi variations went even deeper in the direction of indie pop experimentation with guitar and beat sounds and sample admixtures. It all goes very quickly into the ears.

Pulp - Spike Island

Pulp, the Sheffield indie band that shone brightest in the 90s Britpop era, has announced a new album, More, to be released this June after 24 years.
Frontman Jarvis Cocker says it's the result of their 2023 comeback tour. "We've not been shouted at, spat at, or harassed in any way; all the gigs have gone well. And we decided to go back to the studio. He also pointed out that they wrote the songs without using AI."
Well, for the video of Spike Island, which is the album trailer, they used AI.

Skunk Anansie - Lost and Found

Skunk Anansie, the UK rock band touring hard again, will release its seventh album, The Painful Truth, in May. The second single from it, Lost and Found, is already out. I mentioned the first one about two months ago.

Lana Del Rey - Henry, come on

Lana Del Rey is back. She hasn't gone anywhere at all; she's a constant presence :)
Well, yesterday, she released a new song, Henry, come on. It's a true country classic, a reflection on an unstable love that didn't last, and she has to break it and move on.
In short, we didn't get anything particularly new from Lana. She's where she's been, with lovely, emotional melodies that don't annoy anyone. Whether a new album will follow is unknown to me.

๐ŸŽถThat's all for today, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!

Wow, thats a pile of new stuff! Was attracted a lot by Saya Gray's sleeve cover.
Of these, I've yet listened only to Mark Pritchard & Thom Yorke's 'Gangsters'. Well.. not impressed much. The 1st single (and video) I liked more.

Yes, the cover is interesting.
Well, I like this second video from Mark Prichard and Tom York. Very surreal, I see here a good example of how to use AI creatively. Now, how much of this tool has been used in sound production, I don't know. I don't know (yet) any tool that checks this, like, for example, for text, where it is easy to find out.
