Hive music festival week 143 round 2//\\ Hagiazo covered by @sampraise77
Hey, it's @sampraise77 here for Hive music fest, week 143, round 2!
I’m doing a cover of “Hagiazo” by Dunsin Oyekan. It's a really moving worship song by this Nigerian gospel artist. The word Hagiazo comes from the Greek ἁγιάζω, which means to make something holy or set it apart for God. So, like, dedicating it to Him. In the Christian faith, it's a way of saying you want to be closer to God. In the song, Dunsin uses it to show surrendering to God, becoming pure, and belonging to Him.
From the start, the song makes you feel peaceful and respectful, like you're entering a sacred space. Everything about it – the words, the music – makes you want to be clean and give yourself to God. Dunsin is someone who makes songs that help you feel close to God, and “Hagiazo” does just that.
But not only is it about worship, but it's calling from the heart, longing to be separate from all the bad in the world. It’s like begging the Holy Spirit to make you pure just so you can be worthy. The lines like I want to be holy and “Set me apart” really show how much you want to be pure.
What’s cool about “Hagiazo” is that it’s really based on the Bible. It talks about this idea of being holy, from the rules in the Old Testament to Jesus and Paul teaching us in the New Testament. Like, in John 17:17, Jesus prayed, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” Seriously, this song takes this scripture and turns it into a song that we all can sing
The music is calm, thoughtful, and makes you feel the Spirit – which is just Dunsin’s style. I feel you can reflect and pray along to the song. People cry, kneel, or pray a lot when they hear this song live, because it touches you deeply and makes you think about the areas of your life that needs fixing.
Basically, “Hagiazo” is more than just a song – listening to it brings you closer to God. It’s like you’re sacrificing yourself to God (Romans 12:1). Dunsin Oyekan is reminding us all as a church of how important being pure and living our lives for God really is.
