No one is indispensable

When some people see themselves as indispensable, then they should be told that they are indispensable and that their service is not only beneficial to others but to them as well.

It all happened that Ayo, the church keyboardist thought he was the only that can play for the church and for this reason, he used to behave anyhow and atimes, he would be like he's not in the mood to play until he's been paid, that's when he would play the keyboard for us in the church.

So, this was what led me to go and learn the keyboard, but while still learning, Ayo would not stop being what he used to be. There's a time the pastor called him and said,

“Bro Ayo, please, what do you want for you to be able to change from this your recent lackadaisical attitude towards your service to the church?” “Daddy, I will change, it's just that I need you to give me more time sir,” he replied.

But even with his warm reply, Ayo didn't change at all, in fact, instead of him changing and turning a new leaf, the reverse was the case as he would not even come to church for three weeks which was unlike him.

There was even a day that a member of our church was invited to an anniversary in a particular church, when our member got to this church, he met Ayo at the church playing for the church.

This member of our church after the church program approached Ayo and asked him why he would not come and play for us at the church, but he would not even give her a reasonable response, but one thing is that we all know that Ayo, needs money to be paid to him for him to be playing for us at church.

So, when this our member got to church and narrated everything to the Choir master and the church council, they called Ayo and asked him how much he was willing to be collecting from the church so as for him to be playing for the church, but he, Ayo would not even name a price and after so much deliberation, the church agreed to be giving him 5k per service which he appreciated.

However, after he had been promised the 5k per service, Ayo turned a new leaf and he started coming to church every Sunday and he would not only come to church but also play for the church.

So, this was what happened for almost three months and after the three month, Ayo called the CM and told him saying,

“Choir master sir, please I need an increment on the 5k the church is paying me.” “Haa, Ayo, you know I'm not the one to decide here, I would help you talk to the church and whatever they say, I will let you know,” the choir master replied. “When should I expect an answer from you?” He asked. “Give me till next week,” the choir master answered.

So, immediately the service that same sunday, the choir master went to the church council to deliver Ayo's message and request to them and when they heard this, they all deliberated on it and decided to add 5k to it making it 10k, but Ayo when told by the choir master would not even settle for anything less than 25k.

The church pleaded with him, but he would not listen to them and this was what led him to leave the church permanently without even looking back.

Meanwhile, I was told that the church was the one who sent and paid for him when he was learning the keyboard, but now that he had left, there's nothing they could do to bring him back.

However, due to my little knowledge of what I have learnt so far in the music class, I stepped in and filled the vacuum left behind by Ayo and I did really well.

Although, it's a nervy start to my playing days, but as I continued playing week in week out, I became the master of my skill and when one of Ayo's friends in the church doing his wedding, he came around and what he saw amazed him.as he could not believe the church would have moved on from where he left.

Ayo was humbled with my performance on the keyboard and that's when he knew that no one is indispensable.
