Three Tune Tuesday : Station to Station

Back to the vinyl collection...and here we have Station to Station by David Bowie. This is my week's share for @ablaze 's #threetunetuesday; it's definitely Bowie, it's definitely a bit glam, a bit progressive, and a bit...Qabalah? Apparently so. I used to research the esoteric a bit, and another researcher mentioned this album is quite encoded with steep mysticism, and its a quite dark mysticism at that. I followed up with him on this hypothesis, and he could never quite give me any detail...but alas, it is, rest assured. Oh, OK, that makes sense...there is a reason I don't really research this stuff anymore. Lots of high ideas with very little to no backup...yeah it's a trend in such a field. But hey, I digress...let's get back to the music.

Station to Station

This is the only song that really references anything Qabalah; station to station, get it? Tree of Life and all that? I think there's even a few stations mentioned...I get it, it was the 70's. This song though is a slow burn. The tempo changes around 5:24 and the bass and Bowie hits Bowie mode. It's a great Bowie song I honestly had no idea existed until I bought this album during the COVID days. I like it, however!

Golden Years

Source

I'm sure this one is known by most. Number two on this record, Bowie's Golden Years always reminded of a Lennon song. I wonder if Lennon wrote that chorus in the background...when the song hits 0:45 it sounds like Lennon had something to do with it. I can't prove it, but I've always thought that since I first heard song on CD years ago cleaning rental cars. Never did I think it was Macca...but Lennon, yeah. Interesting...

Word on a Wing

Source

This might be might favorite track on this album. Again, I had never heard this song until I was forced to play the whole thing straight through on vinyl. Again, another benefit of vinyls! On this one I really like the lyrics..."in this age of grand illusion, you walked into my life, out of my dreams." I am sucker for a good Gnostic reference, always! As complicated as Bowie appears to have been in life, his music always seemed to have a Gnostic bend to it. Whoa, I'm starting to dabble again in this area of thought...time to crack a beer and enjoy the rest of this album tonight.

Thanks for checking out my #threetunetuesday share! I hope you enjoyed the shares, and I hope you check out the rest of it.

You only have to watch Labyrinth to know that he was on a slightly different wavelength at times and the rumours of esoteric stuff does not surprise me at all, but whether it was factual, I don't know. Possibly. Probably.

He made great music. I was sad when he died. I'm a big Trent Reznor fan and I know they were friends, there was a lot of shared inspiration and influence. Same with Gary Numan. Gosh, I will probably have a depressive episode when he or Trent go. Music greats stay in the hall of fame through our appreciation.

Nice reflection you captured in the vinyl there.

I assume he dabbled, but I don't think he was the guy attempting to foster in Satan...I don't know, but it's good click bait.

I really didn't discover Bowie until college, but wow, buying all his albums on CD back in the day, wowsa. What a catalog. This album, for whatever reason, I didn't get until COVID. It's a great album

That's quite a haul in one go.

I learned about Bowie through my mom, she had mixed feelings about him. She appreciated him as a musician, but was never a fan of his music, so I think I was influenced subconsciously by that lol. I did however warm to him later on.

This album of his I've never listened to until your post, new music is always good in my book.

I have worn out my headphone battery (happy #ttt! 😆) and will not be listening to Bowie (🔥) with repeated warnings of low battery resounding intermittently inside my ear drums

Bowie tho. Just 100% everything always. A true artist in every way!

I read his autobiography and his first wife was a major influence in getting him to where he was, you know.

Power couple 💥♥️

Amazing performer and poet. As much as that voice and music, huh?

I didn't know that about his wife, but that is cool. I have really only dabbled a bit on his esoteric background, but never learned about his life. I will have to dig into that a bit.

I reckon most of artists that rose in the sixties and seventies were Seekers.

Sign of the times! :)

Vietnam War. Freedom. Psychedelic culture. The Beat generation. It was cultural and it was activism back then.

No shame in being open minded and curious, my friend. No shame at all! Holy moly 👀

The only enemy is Fear.

*salutes

I agree! I take it you fall on the Gnostic side of things as well?

Me?

All I know is that we don't know and probably never really will know. So I'm not prepared to go to war over it or anything stupid :D

I do know, however, that our fear and philosophies divide us and hold us captive. And make us easy to manipulate.

So I'm all for whatever blows your hair back as long as you don't hurt others or yourself.

I do think telling a child, or any human being, they will burn in a fiery place for all eternity if they don't agree with me breaks every rule of personal freedom and contravenes every human right on the planet.

But I also know books have been rewritten by the hand of man so it also makes sense. Sadly.

I've read many books and not nearly enough.

And I'm still finding more and more to read.

So I also know that I hardly know much at all after all that seeking seeking.

Again. Not worth hurting someone over.

I do loathe dishonesty and bullshit. My pet "don't like" these days. So walking it. Whatever you think you believe. Or shut it because you're probably manipulating "reality" or truth if you don't.

So I guess my quest is for "Truth" and only that, these days.

But, of course, I'll probably never find it entirely anyway.

And that's the truth! :)

I'm curious and open to learning and I try to avoid labeling myself these days.

Yeppers, I agree with a lot of that. Truth is a slipperly slope, in my experience. Lots of folks out there making money off of it, and the snakemen are having a field day due to current events. Personlly, I had to take a step back from it because I feel it's better to listen to yourself vs those with a YT channel or whatnot...just my opinion, of course!

Well I have to now research the Gnostic perspective more fully to be able to comment with any kind of intelligence (plannned yesterday after your feedback) so... more learning. Always a good thing!

Truth. :D Changes with knowledge and understanding.

I was busy (finally) looking into Nietsche a bit more yesterday. Among other things. I've reached a point where I feel like I'm not comfortable again. Or I'm bored. Or am "missing" something. So more exploration time. Whatever it is. Just me. I love to learn and explore.

I have my personal experience of "truth" and how it may "work". And what it may be.

But also... it becomes less important to share my "point of view" these days.

Because agreed!

We need to learn to trust ourselves. But not to the point of arrogance so we stop learning :)

It's a constant balancing, checking and re-checking on a minute to minute basis. Hard for us when we're barreling along trying to survive in a "modern" world.

The only time I jump into action these days is to defend truth. Or the avoidance of some semblance of it. My only "good fight". Personally.

But now I'm moving into yet another stage of reflection and learning.

Regarding "snakemen".

Some thoughts...

Nobody can hoodwink a person if they know themselves well enough to not be manipulated. Something we maybe need to address after these last year of intense bypassing and toxic positivity.

Or being told we are "disordered" for seeing "reality" more clearly and so are "unhappy". Then medicated to put us back to "sleep".

This is more the truth I speak of. Not finite answers, which are not really possible, but the ability to be more objective and think critically again. And to, thus, "see" things more clearly. And accept them as they are.

Balance, really.

Which I believe we've lost along the way...

The word "snakemen" for example...

Where do you "see" that word coming from and how do you "see" it influences a person's "view" or perspective on certain people sharing their own perspectives?

Like that 👆🏼

I guess a person with a background based in the Judeo Christian thing would see these "snakemen" as dangerous and dishonest but a person from the East might consider this term more worthy of respect :)

?

Words change according to understanding and experience too. And this part is very innate and unconscious. In all of us :)

It's complicated, huh?!

And now we chat online in short bursts of messages while we try to stay connected and share information and ideas to progess.

What could possibly go wrong? 👀

Good auld Bowie, still giving people new music from beyond the grave. I guess that is the really cool thing about musicians and actors, they become kind of eternal in a sense, as their art will live on, long after they depart this world. Artists, the same.. I must say that I would not be too familiar with this Bowie album either, but it was great listening, hard to believe he is dead, some legend..

Quite a legend indeed! Fortunately I didn't let FM radio dictate my thoughts about his music - i had no idea he had a catalog until I picked up the All Music Guide way back in the 90's - best purchase ever!

Well said man, I'll have to dig into his back catalogue myself, as I'm probably only familiar with less than half of it
