Especially since youngest started playing I always have to look at a violin and wonder how in the hell someone managed to figure out that if you take a mini guitar/lute/whatever it was that generated that body structure and then high tension a bunch of horsehair and rub it over the other strings it would sound pretty cool once you got the hang of it.
Do the guests and students borrow violins as well or just bows? o_O

Hah... it only sounds weird if you say it like that. Sort of like the one about who figured out that boiling a horse would make glue!
Violins are trickier... and more expensive, so they tend to use their own instruments and then retune if necessary!
