Soundscape Chronicles: Exploring My Choice Of Beats

Hi guys,

It’s been a while since I made a post to my blog. I don’t know why but all I know is one day I didn’t make a post and then it felt normal for about 2 weeks, so here we are.

It’s the start of a new week so I was wondering if I could make the deliberate effort to start posting following the new week.

My Julyinelo entry today will be post in a rather familiar community around a topic of discussion for most people.

Music in one way or the other has affected each of our lives. While growing up we all listened to music, While some were privileged to have devices which could download and listen to any type of music, others had to listen to whatever their parents listened to while they drove. So you’d realise that their choice of music is swayed towards the old style of music which is in the 80’s and 90’s type of music.

Growing up, we were a family that travelled a lot by road. So you could realise that as a child my choice of music was swayed towards pop music cause it was what my father liked so much. My father is not the type of person to listen to people like Davido and Wizkid. He’s the type of person to listen to a whole album from Westlife till we reach our destination. So normally I was attracted to that type of song; well I can’t say that I hate those types of songs now as I find myself listening to Westlife from time to time.

For me, it took a long time before I realised what type of music this type of artist does and all; why am telling you this one might ask? Well am giving you this information cause after about 12 years of my life I was generally interested in songs that made sense to me. You could find me listening to a song by Shatta Wale so passionately and the next minute I’ll be listening to rap from Kanye West. Am not one to say I like pop so in my playlist all you’d find is pop music.

So what types of music will I say that I like so much if I am forced to make a choice? Let me put it this way, I love listening to Davido so much so whatever Davido's songs might be what I’d sway to. Who knows, if one day he decides to go into gospel I might be one of the people who’d start listening to gospel.

Apart from Davido I generally listen to songs from Burna Bwoy, Shatta Wale ( someone that I like so much), King Promise and the likes.

At times I think my choice in music is wack; this is something I can accept wholeheartedly cause I know we can’t be 100% when it comes to our choices. At times you find a deep connection to a piece of music cause it talks about a situation or something that you like so much but then someone else doesn’t see why you like it so much. One such example is Kidi’s So Fine; Kidi is an artist that I liked from day one. He sings all these love and romantic songs.

I began liking his style of music ever since he came out. According to some of my friends their not a huge fan of his music and will prefer listening to songs from Tommy Lee and alkaline so they wouldn’t understand why I’d like a song from kidi which is all about love and all. But then he’s an artist that I’ve developed a connection with so I’d like most of his music.

What recommendations do I have for great music? Well, even though I think I have a great choice in music most of the time, I still think I am biased when it comes to certain artists. I’ve recently fallen in love with an old song from Mario which is titled How do I Breathe. It’s a romantic song that I’ve grown to like a lot.

Swaying from there I’ve recently discovered Young’s Johns, Bahamas which has been out for a while but then I have recently fallen in love with.

It’s a song that you’d find me playing every day. Yes, that’s me then I like a song. It’s on repeat every day until I don’t like it anymore.

I have such reactions to. Loool. Unless it's NF, I can listen to a song I like on repeat so much until I get tired of it too. I also grew up with Westlife, Lionel Richie, Spice Girls, Whitney Houston and so much more... Our tastes will not always be 100% that's for sure. We are too human to be perfect
