Its About Time I'll Race You Home... - Three Tune Tuesday
Nothing can bring me to post on HIVE more than music. This post is musical post, but it's also a spiritual post. The band I'll be introducing is Sense Field. They were part of the Hardcore/Alternative scene in the early 90's that went on to make a hit song that was chosen as for the early 2000's TV show Roswell. It's a song against promiscuity and instead extolling the virtue of "someone who loves you for you".
Sense Field "Save Yourself" 2002.
Sense Field hit the scene in 1990 after several members of the band Reason To Believe broke up and reformed as Sense Field. Compared to most hardcore/straight edge/punk bands of those days their sound and lyrics set them apart. The band members could play their instruments well, write melodic, complex songs and lead singer John Bunch's lyrics infused Christianity & God into a thoroughly atheistic, college aged music scene. Being a Prodigal Son myself, I couldn't help but find their music uplifting and addictive. Like this song.
Sense Filed "Overstand"
Sense Field's songs were about positivity, life, and love in a music scene that was angry and bitter. Perhaps it's because in part John Bunch grew up abused and struggled with drug abuse. Music seemed to be where he could escape and help others escape to a better world. Sadly John lost his battle with life's demons and died of an overdose in 2016. He left behind some of the most important music in my life as I searched for meaning and God. I had an epiphany while listening to this song and it has brought me back to the Church, which I will write about more soon.
Sense Field "First Things First"
Tell me the first thing you feel
When you're taking in air
Tell me the first thing you feel
When your body could care less
About the time of day
About what people say
Tell me the first thing you feel
After you close your eyes
Do you recognize
The voice that's been telling you all this time
He's been watching over you
Listening to every single word
Thinking out everything
Do you realize
He's been watching over you
Listening to every single song
Singing out everything
Tell me the first thing you feel
When I reach to touch you
Tell me the first thing you feel
When you smile and cry
Do you recognize
The voice that's been telling you all this time
He's been watching over you
Listening to every single word
Thinking out everything
Do you realize
He's been watching over you
Listening to every single song
Singing out everything...
Its about time I'll race you home...
The band broke up in 2004, but in 2013 they held a reunion show for the 25th anniversary of Revelation Records, the first record label they were signed to. If you want to hear more from them, here is that performance.
Sense Field released 5 albums during their 14 years together. They wrote some of the most deep, meaningful, positive music I've ever heard. I was lucky to see them in concert several times in the early 90's and only recently have I come to understand their lasting impact on my life's journey. Perhaps their music will impact you too?
Father, the Prodigal Son has returned. Thanks John (RIP).
Thanks for listening!
Thanks to @boxcarblue for introducing me to #TTT and @ablaze for dreaming it up.
Interesting, never heard of them before.
They had a bad situation in the mid 90's when they signed to Warner Bros. The label screwed them over and delayed their ability to release a new album for like 5 years. Even so, when they did finally release it is when it got picked up by Roswell and they found success. Sadly it was also the end of the road for them.
