A Vandalized Soul
– Bob Marley
It's either that, or the opposite; where the song and lyrics actually end up inflicting more damage to your vandalized soul.
However, for some odd reason you don't feel like fighting this form of pain, instead you stop resisting; you simply give in. You then let it repeatedly poke your heart, which leaves countless tiny and temporary holes.
During that time there's pain, and there's pleasure too; in an oddly harmonious form. It's a feeling which cannot be put into words.
Yet, here I am...
Every now and then I stumble upon a gem of a song or band, but most of the time it's because of my adept tune hunting skills. I know where to look, and how to look, sometimes the search is successful and the results are just brilliant, and sometimes there's nothing at all, not a dicky bird.
I've been hunting down underrated artists for almost a decade now, and YouTube has been my main hunting ground. If you look in the right places, then you'll be left baffled, after seeing how many talented artists and bands there are and how good their music really is.
Whenever I post any of these songs on social media people message me asking about the song and artist. 8 out of 10 times, they won't have any idea about the artist or genre; yet, they'll surely like the song. It is expected though, since people only listen to the big names and labels. 90% of "music enjoyers" always lean towards the more advertized "products" and the genres that are currently "in".
Alas, in present times most of the popular artists and genres that are "in", happen to be quite diabolical.
Lately I've been watching a lot of movies, from an average of 4 to 5 movies a year, I've now upped my game to 10 or more movies; starting from mid 2022.
It's not even the latest movies that I watch, 9 out of 10 times these movies are at least a decade old. Because the movies we see nowadays are just kinda meh...
I am quite picky when it comes to movies, but a big "selling point" for me is the music. If the music is that good, then the chances are that I'll remember that movie and that certain scene for the rest of my life. Certain songs and tunes just make the whole experience more "distinguished" and unfading.
I will take requests and suggestions every now and then, but I'll still take my time to learn more about the movie before I decide to finally watch it.
Just yesterday I quite abruptly decided to watch The Gambler (2014).
I had watched a few scenes long ago, a few more scenes just recently, and the trailer too. I wasn't sold instantly, but it did take me a few days to finally submit; which isn't common. And I'm really glad that I watched it, but not because of the movie though...
The movie was alright, but I'm glad because, during the opening scene I found this little gem(The video you see linked above).
Right then and there I felt the vibe of the 60s-70s; the names James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles popped up instantaneously. However, it wasn't them, nor was the band or song from that era. The song does have that Soulfully Jazzed up aura with a few hints of The Blues, but the band was actually St. Paul and the Broken Bones, formed just a decade ago, in 2012.
The song is St. Paul and the Broken Bones - That Glow. And so far it has been on repeat for almost 24 hours now haha.
How much longer will the streak of painfully soothing prods go on? I really don't know.
Yet, for now I'll leave it at that I guess. Let the song take over and do all the talking from here.
You folks just let me know if it's "your jam" or not, maybe even share a song that you've recently stumbled upon? The kind that's usually put on repeat for countless hours and days.
Cheers 🎷🍻
Bhai apnar lekhar style kemne banailen? Like kono book theke naki…?
Ki lekhar style? Format, vocab, na overall?
Format
As I kept writing and learning I just leaned more towards what felt and looked right. It's that simple!
I really want to start watching movies too but I don't have enough time so it may take me a whole week to complete the movie
A whole week for one movie? Damn! That kills the fun of it.
Finishing the movie in one go, is all I know haha.
