Weekends With Him

Last week I was chatting to a friend and admitting that Jamie and I were pretty anxious people, mainly because we set crazy deadlines for ourselves with impossible projects, you know, like building an expedition vehicles to ship to the other side of the world just before world war three breaks out. She countered with: 'at least you've managed to hold down a relationship for twenty years'.

Hell yeah.

That's something of a miracle.

To look forward to a weekend just because you get to hang out with your husband is a testament to a good marriage. We were talking to another mate who has a whole year long service leave with his wife, and he was saying they were holidying in different countries because they'd already been to Japan for a week together this year.

What's the point of being married if you don't like hanging out together?

I can't say what the favourite part of my weekend is, because it's all pretty good when I'm hanging out with him, even if it's mundane.

It always, always starts with a cuppa in bed - I get up, switch the kettle on, snuggle and, well, you know - and then he makes the cuppa. Then we shower together (it saves water, plus it's nice) and then it's breakfast. If the chooks are laying, it's usually scrambled eggs. I make a good breakfast.

This weekend we've started building the inside of our camper (again). That's taken some thinking as nothing in a Land Rover is straight, and we need to make it feel spacious, whilst not making it too heavy. We love doing a project together.

He makes me laugh as we crack DIY jokes full of innuendo (like, can you just hold tight to this piece of wood for me?) and we listen to loud tunes in the arvo to buoy us up when we are getting frustrated and tired.

Twenty years of DIY jokes and tunes.

Twenty years of weekends together, bar a scant few.

Twenty years of him being the favourite part of my weekend.

This was in response to @galenkp's 'Weekend Engagement' question. I chose the prompt which asks us to talk about the favourite part of our weekend. I hope you are all having a good one.

With Love,

That's the best part of being a couple! I really love being with my husband thru everything. Ten years being together makes us laugh through bad times and we always get through

Once you get through the few few bad times, it gets better! You just support each other more easily.

Indeed! On our first years we have fights often, we were not to so open at each other back then. Now our thoughts are almost the same. No secrets, and everything we do is for the family..

Exactly, as we live more, we care to make each other happier and individual interests become a family affair.

That's really sweet, like even those little things you do together can become the most exciting part of being a couple. ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

We enjoy whatever we do together. A tropical island holiday would be nice though!

If I were to be a jealous person I know what I would feel right now.

Happy for the two of you and hopeful that I will meet someone similar in this lifetime or another :^)

We spent the last 20+ years together 24/7, as both were disabled and not working. One doesn't realize how precious that time is, until it's gone.

I thought you were going to go all religious for a moment!

I can see that this Him means so much to you, even after decades, so sweet of you guys

Awwwww! This is so sweet. Before I say anything, happy 20 years of love. I admire the love you shared with your husband as I was reading through. Truly, what is marriage if you are not hanging out with your partner.

I guess it's not for everyone, but it's for us. Not to say we don't fight though!

I can totally understand the holidaying separately thing. Married people don't have to do every single thing together, and sometimes doing things separately gives you lots of stories to tell the other when you're together again. If my wife loves the beach but I really love the snow, enjoying those things doesn't mean you don't also really enjoy their company.

All marriages are different and if it works for you, sure! We sleep in separate beds which others think is weird, and I go surfing without him. But I'm not going to Europe for a year without him, that's for sure! I meant much longer time apart. A few days or a week doesn't count 😎 I went to Tassie for ten days without him and had a blast - I'd forgotten about that one! Probably too caught up thinking about lovvvvve haha!

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought they were going on holidays for a portion of the year-long sabbatical... not the whole year... that is pretty intense!

Definitely as we're getting older we're considering the separate beds, mainly because if one of us isn't sleeping well the stress of not waking up the other is a lot.

Yeah if you have the space do it. We have snuggles before bed and in the morning but a good night's sleep is everything!!!!!
