Taylor Swift - The Eras Tour (2023) review: I get it now.

Although it is difficult to evaluate a concert movie under the same terms as a traditional film, and Taylor Swift is quite far from the type of music I usually consume, it is impossible not to recognize the great amount of genius that lies behind a project like "The Eras Tour." , not only because the tour that served as a starting point for creating this feature film was a perfect synthesis of the last years of the North American singer-songwriter's brilliant career, but also because it has production levels that can attract anyone who appreciates good art and that's it.

I don't want you to misunderstand my level of interest before starting this 3-hour odyssey, throughout this year Taylor has become more relevant than ever, becoming a cultural phenomenon that we could only equate with giants like Michael Jackson or Queen.

Full stadiums around the world, people obsessively streaming re-recordings of her "classic" albums and the ability to attract the attention of personalities of all kinds (politicians, athletes, artists), the impact of this woman on the music industry is so great that It's hard not to question whether she deserves it, especially considering that, despite her excellent writing skills, a good portion of her discography is rather conservative in musical terms.

The irony of the whole thing is that The Eras Tour manages to dispel all these doubts, putting us in front of a masterful display of singing, dancing and theater that, surprisingly, manages to remain quite intimate despite the absurd scale of the spectacle it is portraying.

What makes all this work? Agility, The Eras Tour is an explicit celebration of the singer's entire career, divided into "eras" (as her fans often call) each stage in which each of these albums was released.

Although there are many recurring stylistic elements, this concept is a very clever way to demonstrate the versatility of her discography, and avoids falling into the monotony of a specific sound. Each era has its own set of different colors, costumes, rhythm, choreography and execution.

It should be noted that at least in the film these eras do not have a narrative purpose nor do they follow a linear structure (some fan correct me if I am wrong), in fact, Taylor herself begins the show by recognizing that all these themes are linked to a moment. specific to his life that no longer exists, however, I believe that this "disorder" ends up working in his favor, keeping the surprise factor alive and calming predictability.

Personally, I feel that "The Eras Tour" is a wonderful experience, and regardless of whether we appreciate this type of music and performances or not, giving it a chance will make us understand the phenomenon behind Taylor Swift much better.

No quiero que me malinterpreten mi nivel de interés antes de iniciar esta odisea de 3 horas, durante todo este año Taylor ha adquirido más relevancia que nunca, convirtiéndose en un fenómeno cultural que solamente podríamos equiparar con gigantes de la industria como Michael Jackson o Queen.

Estadios llenos alrededor del mundo, gente stremeando obsesivamente las regrabaciones de sus álbumes "clásicos" y la capacidad de llamar la atención de personalidades de todo tipo (políticos, deportistas, artistas), el impacto de esta mujer en la industria musical es tan grande que resulta difícil no cuestionar si lo merece, especialmente si tomamos en consideración que, pese a sus excelentes habilidades como escritora, una buena porción de su discografía es más bien conservadora en términos musicales.

La irónica de todo el asunto es que The Eras Tour logra despejar todas estas dudas, poniéndonos frente a un despliegue magistral de canto, baile y teatro que, sorpresivamente, logra mantenerse bastante íntimo a pesar de la absurda escala del espectáculo que está retratando.

¿Que hace que todo esto funcione? La agilidad, The Eras Tour es una celebración explícita de toda la carrera de la cantante, dividida en "eras" (como sus fans suelen llamar) a cada etapa en la cual se estrenó cada uno de estos albumes.

Aunque existen muchos elementos estilísticos recurrentes, este concepto es una manera muy inteligente de demostrar la versatilidad de su discografía, y evita caer en la monotonía de un sonido específico. Cada era tiene su propio set de colores diferentes, vestuarios, ritmo, coreografías y ejecución.

Cabe aclarar que al menos en la película estás eras no tienen un propósito narrativo ni siguen una estructura lineal (que me corrija algún fan si estoy equivocado ), de hecho, la misma Taylor inicia al espectáculo reconociendo que todos estos temas están ligados a un momento específico de su vida que ya no existe, no obstante, creo que este "desorden" termina jugando a su favor, manteniendo vivo el factor sorpresa y apaciguando la predictibilidad.

Personalmente siento que "The Eras Tour" es una experiencia maravillosa, e independientemente de que apreciemos este tipo de música y performances o no, darle una oportunidad nos hará entender mucho mejor el fenómeno que hay detrás de Taylor Swift.
