Straight Outta Compton: rising and falling.

Although it may seem like just another addition to the ocean of musical biopics that have emerged in recent decades within the film industry, if there is something that puts Straight Outta Compton above all of them, it is its ability to tell a powerful story that, Without separating itself from reality, it contains a powerful social criticism.

Directed by F. Gary Gray and released in August 2015, Straight Outta Compton shows us the rise and subsequent fall of N.W.A, a rap group that became relevant in the 90s and was characterized by exploring the abuses of power it exercised. the police on the North American population, as well as the violent lifestyle that was recurrent in several marginalized areas of the United States.

Composed of Dr.Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, MC Ren and DJ Yella, despite the group's undeniable harmony when it came to musical matters, they were accompanied from the beginning by a series of problems with contractual conditions of each member, as well as the way in which their manager distributed the profits.

In this way, Straight Outta Compton is dedicated to showing us all these conflicts, emphasizing the way in which the industry manipulated a group of talented young black people until they were no longer "valuable." But it ends up showing us that they are capable of defeating the system and emerging by their own means (As time has shown us).

From an audiovisual point of view Straight Outta Compton is a brilliant film that knows how to capture the essence of hip hop culture in the very specific time frame it portrays, something that ranges from the way all its characters dress and express themselves, until obviously, the brilliant pieces of music that we can hear here and there.

Apart from all this, it is worth highlighting the brilliant casting choices, who are not only extremely physically reminiscent of their "real" counterparts, but manage to capture their respective auras. In Straight Outta Compton we not only get to watch the original members of N.W.A, but also a couple of brilliant cameos to recognizable faces of the genre like Snoop Dog and Tupac, all handled with an immeasurable amount of respect.

It is an excellent film that, although it has a couple of pacing problems, ends up providing a very moving and immersive experience, recommended for anyone who enjoys the rap genre or who simply feels attracted to the powerful themes that are addressed in it.

Aunque puede parecer una adición más en el océano de biopics musicales que han surgido estás últimas décadas dentro de la industria cinematográfica, si hay algo que pone a Straight Outta Compton por encima de todas ellas es la capacidad que tiene para narrar una historia poderosa que, sin desligarse de la realidad, contiene una potente crítica social.

Dirigida por F. Gary Gray y estrenada en agosto del 2015, Straight Outta Compton nos muestra el surgimiento y la posterior caída de N.W.A, un grupo de rap que tomó relevancia en los años 90s y que se caracterizaba por explorar los abusos de poder que ejercía la policía sobre la población norteamericana, así como el violento estilo de vida que era recurrente en varias zonas marginadas de los Estados Unidos.

Compuesto por Dr.Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, MC Ren y DJ Yella, a pesar de la innegable armonía del grupo cuando se trataba de los asuntos musicales, desde el principio se vieron acompañados de una serie de problemas con las condiciones contractuales de cada miembro, así como la forma en la que su manager distribuía las ganancias.

De esta forma, Straight Outta Compton se dedica a mostrarnos todos estos conflictos, haciendo énfasis en la forma en la que industria manipuló a un grupo de talentosos jóvenes negros hasta que dejaron de ser "valiosos". Pero termina demostrándonos que los mismos son capaces de derrotar al sistema y surgir por sus propios medios (Como el tiempo nos demostró).

Desde un punto de vista audiovisual Straight outta Compton es una película brillante que sabe capturar muy la esencia de la cultura del hip hop en el marco de tiempo tan específico que retrata, algo que va desde la forma de vestir y expresarse de todos sus personajes, hasta obviamente, las brillantes piezas musicales que podemos escuchar aquí y allá.

Aparte de todo esto, cabe destacar las brillantes elecciones de casting, quienes no solo resultan extremadamente reminiscentes a sus contrapartes "reales" desde lo físico, sino que logran capturar sus respectivas auras. En Straight Outta Compton no solo podemos observar a los miembros originales de N.W.A, sino que abran un par de cameos brillantes a caras reconocibles del género como Snoop Dog y Tupac, todas manejadas con una cantidad inmesurable de respeto.

Es una película excelente que, si bien cuenta con un par de problemas de pacing termina brindando una experiencia muy conmovedora e inmersiva, recomendada para cualquiera que disfrute el género del rap o que simplemente se sienta atraída por los temas tan potentes que en el se abordan.
