Three Tune Tuesday.. err Wednesday?
Stickupboys introduced me Three Tune Tuesday today, and well, I'm a little late to the show. But I liked the concept because I love a bit of music, and well, I want to take part. Listen to music whilst i write. What's not to love, right?
Well, right now I'm going through an 80's phase where all I'm doing is listening to 80s beats because it reminds me of my childhood.
First Pick: Survivor, Eye of The Tiger
I picked this one because it was the first song I downloaded when I got my first taste of broadband. Beforehand on my little shitty 128.8k modem, it would take at least an hour to download a 3MB tune, but as it happens I had the broadband engineer in my house installing my kit, and he was so excited to show me this new download platform where I can get everything fast and free. I forget it's name, but when he asked me to try it, it was survivor, eye of the tiger.
I remember getting so hyped up and excited about this tune because it was one that I hadn't heard in absolute years and it was my first brush with the concept of owning anything I ever wanted. We grew up quite poor you see,
Guns and Roses, Sweet Child o' Mine
Probably one of my all time favourites this one is. My mother wasn't a very heavy rock music listener, and neither were my friends -- so the first time I ever heard this song was when I was on holiday with my dad in Manchester. He took me to see a lovely couple who also took me to see Manchester Utd play. They were playing Wimbledon, and we won 2-0.
Those guys were rock listeners and Guns of Roses and simple minds was all I listened to for that 2 weeks. It brings back some really good wholesome memories. They even copied me a tape (back when those were a thing) and I took it with me to listen at home.
My dad did that quite a lot. Dump me off with people and go away and work. It's not a bad thing, at least he tried in any way he could at that time.
Metallica: Nothing else matters
Not quite the 80's, but this was the first time I had experienced proper rejection in my life from a girl. There was this girl that I really liked at my college; we talked lots, and I had become real good friends with her and we literally hung around and did everything together. She was really cute, really simple, didn't want much from life -- safe to say I fell head over heels for her. Ahhh, teenage angst and unrequited love haha
But anyway I worked up the courage to ask her out and well - I was dealt the rejection and I didn't take it too well. This is the song I listened to on repeat for a long time after that. I was a very emotional kid. Tended to jump into situations with not much information, and even worse so when it came to love.
So this song brings with it a lot of memories, which it's sometimes nice to remember the path you've walked in life to get to where you are today.
And that's it for now!!
More to come next tuesday.
Those are definitely some good ones! I was listening to a little bit of Survivor on my road trip today. Good stuff!
Nice. Very nice!
classics...was learning the bass part for Sweet Child of mine last week lol
Ohh, you'll have to play that in the cave!
