Mothers are rare gem

Mothers are their children's mini-god, the first person a child gets to know is his or her mother. Mothers are a shield that guides their children even when everyone turns their back on such a child. The bond between a child and a mother cannot be broken, they both share a strong bond that no one understands.

Some children prefer their father to their mother but yet, there is this special love one has for his or her mother. For this reason, it tends to be the end of the road for some children when they lose their mothers.

There are things the mother can do that the father cannot do, and there are steps, risks, and decisions a mother would take on her child's life that a father might not be able to take. Mothers tend to endure sufferings to prepare their children, a mother's strength is his or her children.

Mothers understand their children's pain even without the child or children saying it. We can't just appreciate mothers enough for everything they go through to make their children successful.

I was overwhelmed listening to my grandma's story of how she raised all her children including my father while her husband doesn't care whether the children are well taken care of. She strives so hard amidst hardship to make sure all of her children are educated. Today, they are all successful, they are all proud of her as their mother and this is the kind of mother I wish to be, the one my children can be proud of.

What then happens when an important figure of such leaves one's life? The pains are immeasurable, I cannot imagine the kind of agony such child or children are being subjected to. Some gave up on life because the mother who serves as a backbone is no longer there. I realized this when a friend of mine lost her mother when she gained admission into a higher institution. Since then life has been a war for her, though she is surviving every hardship I can say, it isn't as easy as it would be if her mother was alive.

I was inspired to write this when I listened to "Celine Dion" song titled "Goodbye's (the saddest word)", this was a song she wrote when she lost her mother to the cold hands of death. The lyrics are so touching that they could make anyone cry.

This song is a pointer to appreciate every mother for being a pillar of support for their children and whether alive or in death, they remain the child or children's heroine for life. I'm using this medium to say goodbye and may their souls rest in peace with every mother we've lost. I would love to share the lyrics with you all. Take time to appreciate your mother, she is a rare gem.

Mamma
You gave life to me
Turned a baby into a lady

Mamma
All you had to offer
Was the promise of a lifetime of love

Now I know
There is no other
Love like a mother's love for her child

And I know
A love so complete
Someday must leave
Must say goodbye

Goodbye's the saddest word I'll ever hear
Goodbye's the last time I will hold you near
Someday you'll say that word and I will cry
It'll break my heart to hear you say goodbye

Mamma
You gave love to me
Turned a young one into a woman

Mamma
All I ever needed
Was a guarantee of you loving me

'Cause I know
There is no other
Love like a mother's love for her child

And it hurts so
That something so strong
Someday will be gone, must say goodbye

Goodbye's the saddest word I'll ever hear
Goodbye's the last time I will hold you near
Someday you'll say that word and I will cry
It'll break my heart to hear you say goodbye

But the love you gave me will always live
You'll always be there every time I fall
You are to me the greatest love of all
You take my weakness and you make me strong
And I will always love you 'til forever comes

And when you need me
I'll be there for you always
I'll be there your whole life through
I'll be there this I promise you, Mamma

I'll be your beacon through the darkest nights
I'll be the wings that guide your broken flight
I'll be your shelter through the raging storm
And I will love you 'till forever comes

Goodbye's the saddest word I'll ever hear
Goodbye's the last time I will hold you near
Someday you'll say that word and I will cry
It'll break my heart to hear you say goodbye

'Till we meet again...
Until then...
Goodbye
