This morning I wrote a song called I’m Grateful that my Eyes are Clear.

The Buddhist sentiment of acceptance and gratitude runs deep through the verses of this song, however there is an element of sadness to it.

"The mind is the source of happiness and unhappiness by what it chooses to compare the experience with. If it chooses to compare it to something worse then it will create happiness, gratitude and pride but if it chooses to compare it to something better then it will create unhappiness, bitterness and envy."
Gautama Buddha

I hope though, that in the main the song is uplifting.

While recognizing the negatives of humankind's duality, I hope that it shows the equal positive nature of our continuing evolution. The quote from Buddha above exemplifies how I see gratitude: the sad (or negative) things in life teach us needed lessons, while the posative things bring our attention to the joy that is at the heart of life.

This is how I view acceptance and gratitude 🙂🌿

Thanks for checking out my song, and for sure there are many emotional lyrics, as is so often when writing from the heart.

This lyrics got me so emotional, that line "I'm grateful that my eyes are clear but still I cry"

Yeah, I feel it, parts of this song pull at the hear-strings. But I've personally come to the realization after many years that the only positive I can take from the sadness's in life are the lessons those things teach me, this is why I ended the song with...

And so I smile
I’m grateful, why?
It’s because I smile

Some people might not see it the same way (which is fine) but for me gratitude is an attitude to foster, both in the good times and the bad. Lol, anyway... I'm getting all deep and meaningful.

I was happy with the Lyrics and Structure (as a professional writer outside of hive), but I'm always paranoid about my singing voice.

😂 believe me, I tried recording myself playing the guitar and singing the song at the same time, and it wasn't something I'd have been happy to show even my friends 🤣 .... but a bit of video editing wizardry allowed me to sing separate to my guitar playing, which made the singing a bit better lol

I'm just glad the song gave such an emotional reaction, that is usually a sign the writing is good at least. 🙂

Oh yeah I get what you mean and I agree totally that gratitude should be in times of both good and bad situations, so I've been taught as well.

Haha I believe you'll do better with more practice, I mean singing and playing the guitar together, people are doing it so comfortably, you can do it too 💯

Haha, for sure practice makes perfect. There are only so many hours in the day unfortunately. When I was a teenager I used to practice guitar 4-5 hours/day, but I always struggled with singing and playing at the same time... and this was when I could play Jimi Hendrix songs 😂

Ha ha, same same with me m8. I can barely multitask my way out of a wet paper bag 😂 Feel free to copy the split screen thing. It is quite easy in Da Vinci resolve, but I don't know which editing software you used. All I did was make one landscape recording of me just playing the song on guitar, then I imported an audio only version to listen to using those giant earphones I'm wearing in the portrait split. Then after importing the landscape video, I recorded another portrait singing part with the guitar audio playing down the headphones from my PC jack, and used another bluetooth mic to record the singing through my phone's video. Tbh, it looks like you've got more sophisticated equipment than me as I took a look at your last entry to the Hive Open Mic 👍

Playing guitar while singing (even passably) at the same time has always been difficult impossible for me 🎸😂 As I was explaining to merit.ahama in a comment above, when I was a teenager I used to practice guitar 4-5 hours/day, but I always struggled with singing and playing at the same time, even when I was good enough to play a few Jimi Hendrix songs!

I can understand very well the difficulty qith playing and singing at the same time. I started playing and singing here on hive and it has helped me a lot.
You did the combination quite well.

Yeah, I've tried for 25 years to sing and play guitar together, and i've never got better at holding a note while trying to focus on the guitar.
It is just one of those things I guess.
Maybe singing coaching might help, but I just don't have time for that.
