π΅ Hive Open Mic 157 - Perfect Day (Cover of a Song by Lou Reed)
βΆοΈ Watch on 3Speak
To fast forward to the performance of the song skip to 1.56 in the video.
As I explained in the video I had a bit of thinking to do with the week's Hive Open Mic theme as I am an atheist, and so the theme - "Al Dios Que Adoramos" (The God We Worship) - seemed a none starter at first.
But when I thought about the central commonalities between all religions, once you get past the idea many religions push that 'their god' is the one true god (meaning everyone else is wrong π), once you get past that, the core idea that all religions share is that of faith.
I have religious friends - Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh and a practising Buddhist friend, and all of them describe faith in almost the same terms. Although they may express it in slightly different ways, it comes down to trust and love of their god along with the belief that their god is looking after them, or guiding them in some way out of love.
Once I realised this I decided to enter this edition despite not being religious, because the one thing I strive for in my life, and think that humanity as a whole needs to embrace and value more, is love.
Giving love unconditionally is one of the most positive and important human traits which we should nurture until it grows to become the dominant drive behind what we do as a species. Love negates conflict, if more people in the world expressed love rather than a constant need for competition; weβd live in a more peaceful and less divisive world.
Anyway, I donβt pretend to understand faith completely, it seems to me that you either have it or you donβt in a religious context. But I would strongly argue that non-religious people can have faith in ideas or concepts as I mentioned with my belief in the power of love as a force for good in the world.
I hope you enjoyed my rendition of 'Perfect Day' by Lou Reed.
Despite the fact Lou Reed wrote that song inspired by something completely different to what it inspires in me, I love that song. It encapsulates that feeling of a perfect day filled with love, laughter and joy.
But I'll stop now with all this before I reach level eight on the Richter scale of cheesiness π
Let me know what you think of my cover in the comments.
Thanks for reading ππΏ
All media in this post is either my own, or shared for referance (as with the Lou Reed song) fair use.
I used DaVinci Resolve video editor to synch the lyrical audio to the instrimental and create the split screen effect.

I know a lot of atheists. You could say 85% of my friends are atheists. Although many say that atheists have no religion, I think they are wrong. The absolute religion is love, even if they are atheists, they and you must believe in love. And the God that is embraced is truth and virtue. isn't that so friend? I am a Muslim, but I do not judge any belief including atheists because everyone has what is considered right. Btw, the song you brought today was really cool and I enjoyed it. Regards
Yeah, this is what I'm pretty much saying at the beginning of my video for sure. I do believe in the power of love as the best element of humankind, and I know that the vast majority of people of faith believe that too in their worship of their god π
This is where the lines become blurry, and I think it is part of why religion has lost its foothold quite a lot, especially in the Western world. When I look at all monotheistic religions (which are the most widely practised in the modern day), at the core and heart are the words of a teacher - Muhammad, Jesus etc speaking on behalf of God, as God's mouthpiece.
And 90% of what the various prophets are saying is about ways to live to avoid conflict and treat people with respect and love.
But there have undoubtedly been many people since who have used organised religion for their own selfish gains; kings, people high up in churches/temples etc, and all these people have one thing in common, they're politicising religions to create schisms even within a set religion, which lead to wars or acts of violence, and then it all gets rather messy.
Unfortunately, as with any aspect of humankind's progression, sociopaths have infiltrated various religions for various reasons, using people to further their own gain or agenda which usually have nothing to do with the teachings (mainly about respect and love of our fellow humans) of the original prophets. They may call it 'interpreting the words' of the prophets, but this is arrogance, and I personally think that one of the biggest benefits of faith in a good person is the sublimation of the ego. That trust and faith in a god's goodness that they escape the whispering of the ego that demands 'I need to get mine, even at the cost of other people' π
I know that the best thing that occurred for me through my practice of mediation was quieting my mind, racing thoughts and cutting out the urges of my ego to want to battle, even battle myself lol
Anyway, having said all that, all of the ordinary people I am friends with who hold different faiths wouldn't dream of hurting someone of a different faith, and I hope that these greater manipulations (by political thinkers or/and extremists) within religions slowly become filtered out by the majority of people who just want to live in harmony with others, regardless of any choice in belief, or no belief.
I'm a great studier of history and religion, as I write fantasy fiction (like Lord of the Rings style fiction) and pretty much every religion is guilty of diabolical acts in history in the name of their god... but, that fervour has always been inspired by some human manipulating the populous.
In Christianity, you only have to look at the Crusades started by the Catholic church to try and secure ownership of 'the holy lands' an area of the planet that they had no rights to, and had been inhabited by other peoples for hundreds of thousands of years.
I guess my point is that I have never met one person of faith who could/would persecute their neighbour (or friend) of a different faith, and I know this is the vast majority of religious people live their faith in a way that is about love for their god and respect for the world around them.
I hope that it is 100% that way one day, but then there are the ravages of Machiavellian politics to overcome, separate from any religious fundamentalism, to try and bring this world into balance.
But that is a whole different conversation lol... and this comment is rapidly turning into a post of its own π
Thanks for checking out my open mic entry, and engaging in your comment in a meaningful way ππΏ
In my opinion, this is because their group uses religion. I also reject war and violence in the name of religion. Even in my country Indonesia. Islam has been used as a tool for political and business interests. They cut off some verses in the holy book to convince their followers to defend religion. In fact, they defend the interests of selfish people who care for themselves and their groups. For me, religion is a spiritual path to a great entity in my belief. I reject religion being an organization or any interest for the sake of power, position and money.
I can see that you've considered the points I raised, and I think we're similar in our thinking to be honest, despite the obvious difference in belief. Which I find to be an awesome thing ππ
I respect you for this, and thanks for reading my quite long, and involved, comment π
In my experience, I've found that the vast majority of religious people are good people who feel they have a personal connection to their god through devotion and prayer. This is amazing, and I respect them for that and especially trust that personal connection when they tell me about it. I can see the love shining from their eyes.
It is only my opinion, and I really don't want to offend, but I was always taught to speak my truth; I think that through the hierarchy of organised religion bad people (or groups of people as you mentioned) slip through the cracks at times, and subvert things toward their own agenda or gain.
If more emphasis were put on the importance of the personal connection to god in all religions (for every individual worshiper), rather than following particular modern-day figures who claim to be divinely inspired, much pain could be avoided.
Anyway, I'm only deep diving into this because I know that at least three or four of my friends who are atheists say exactly the same type of things as I'm expressing here.
Thanks for your response @indonesiabersatu
P.s. I have followed your account π
Thank you very much my brother. There is no absolute truth. It's all about point of view. What makes me sad about religious people is that their beliefs are considered the absolute truth. I love reading nihilistic views of the meaninglessness of the universe. In Islamic Sufism, it is almost close. That everything is only mortality and the essence of man and his life is nothing.
Thanks
@hiveopenmic
Always a pleasure to take part in the Hive Open Mic π
You did a good job to edit the playing and singing together also I love to listen to your Liverpool accent , it makes me think of The Beatles :D.
Thanks for acknowledging the editing wizardry. Lol, I've been vlogging 'on and off' and making short films on
steem/hive for nearly 6 years now, but recently had to change from the video editor I learned to use to DaVinci Resolve video editor. But it is amazing what you can learn pretty quickly using YouTube tutorials these days πI was a little unsure of my singing on this one if I'm honest, but sometimes I think you just have to put yourself out there.
Ha ha, well if you ever make it over to Liverpool you will find no shortage of Beatles activities. I have a greenhouse on a friend's allotment next to a park not far from where I live, and the double-decker Beatles tour bus drives past us every 30 minutes when I'm down there doing tasks and watering my tomatoes.
Thanks for checking out my open mic entry ππΏ
Nice one friend and no matter what our beliefs are, we still recognize the existence of a superior being and that is God.

:the power of love as a force for good in the world" I agree you, @raj808. I enjoyed your performance. Thanks for sharing. One thousand and successes to you.
Thank you for your kind words and well wishes. And you're right, 'love as a force for good in the world' is the best quality of humankind I think. The best actions we can take are those taken through love, the best way to make someone feel better who is depressed, for example, is by showing them love even if it is only a gift, or a text or phone call.
I'm glad you enjoyed the musical performance.
Peace, love and prosperity to you
