3D Sonic The Hedgehog
Was something that I've always wanted to make for an animation project. Although, I did make a 18 second animation like 4 years ago, it wasn't that good, and it was the time where I was starting to get into 3D animation, maybe one day I'll show you the animation. ┐(´∀`)┌ Anyway, I decided that I wanted to make a cell shaded sonic the hedgehog 2 days ago and the process of it wasn't really that complicated but still rather time consuming.

According to Wikipedia, Cel shading or toon shading is a type of non-photorealistic rendering designed to make 3-D computer graphics appear to be flat by using less shading color instead of a shade gradient or tints and shades. This kind of art style to me is really cool and artistic when it comes to animation or 3D rendering. Today I wanted to show you guys not only cell shading effects in blender, but also character rigging which didn't take to long surprisingly.

I don't want to take too much of your time, so I guess I'll just talk about the main things I did for this mini project. The main thing I did first was modify sonic heavily so that the rigging process would go smoothly, like fixing the model and sorts.

Without Bones
With bones
I used the addon that blender provides for amatures, it makes everything easier, but there are still little things that have to be ironed out. Also, I like to point out that there's a generate button that makes all the bones into shapes. This way, as an animator it makes it easy for character animations.
Cell Shading
I had to look up a tutorial for this one. Basically we have these things called nodes in blender. It allows you to have different color effects ranging from gradient to invert colors. Just imagine Photoshop's effects but more complex. After that, I just posed sonic and render the picture out to be further modified in Photoshop. Oh I almost forgot, the model was provided by Model resources. It has so many models from every video game. You can click here to see

Really cool style, Raizel! I remember playing Sonic on Sega Genesis when I was 5 and never be able to beat it hahaha. Great memories. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks man, sonic was the first game I played growing up. Good times indeed @siucatti. :]
This is great bro, Oh man i wish i could design stuff like this!!! Lol i wish i could design anything at all😅😅 You've got talent bro!!!
Thanks @francistagbo, you can do it too. You just have to put time into these things. For me I've been doing this kind of stuff for years, and I love it.
