Three Tune Tuesday #168 .:. Radiohead — pt.2
The whole last week I spent deep in the rabbit hole... a splendid journey back in time, in 90-es, hit me all of a sudden! I grabbed the recently published 'Radiohead: Climbing up the walls' - fantastic album by photographer Tom Sheehan, which accumulated his photos of the band from 1992 to 2003. Some stuff included into the album was well known, but 2/3 pictures turned out absolutely new to me, never published, with cool backstage stories added.
So, it was absolutely out of the question what I should present you this time. Ofc it have to be Radiohead and nothing else! 😎 Previous #ttt post devoted to this band is here.
Radiohead - Just (Do it to yourself)
This one is very old, from 1995 epoch - before the internet arrived to our land! As the legend has it, the song appeared as a competition between Thom and other guitarist (Jonny Greenwood) - who will add more chords to the song? The result was... quite convincing. Promo video, created by director Jamie Travis, is considered to be one of the best music videos ever. 😉 Perfect stuff to convert a new Radiohead fan, lol.
Radiohead - The National Anthem
This album was the first Radiohead album that rocketed to N1 position in US charts; and this tune, as I remember after 24 years have passed, impressed me most on the album at that time. Here is a little quote from Thom Yorke about its recording: “On the day I said to the session jazzers, ‘You know when you’ve been in a traffic jam for four hours and if someone says the wrong thing to you, you’ll just kill ‘em, you’ll fucking snap and probably throttle them? Any tiny spark and you’re going to go off, and you’re in the midst of two or three hundred other people who are in exactly the same thing. I wanted them to play like that, like, this fucking close to going off, lynching or killing". And thats how they recorded it.
Radiohead - The National Anthem
No promotional videos were produced along with said album, but after a few years the band released a memorable fan-made compilation of videos and shorts, where this tune got this funny (and, yeah, a bit trashy) coverage. And know what? in my opinion - the clip absolutely nailed it!
Radiohead - Anyone Can Play Guitar
I could say so much about this; but in brief: if you havent seen this - you cant pretend you understand what Radiohead is/were about. This is the essence. And, yeah, this is exactly the famous performance where Thom jumped off into the pool after ending the song.
I hope you enjoyed today's music selection, and travelling around the globe without leaving the Hive. 😎 The post goes for Three Tune Tuesday challenge run by @ablaze. I enjoyed your picks a lot. "Just" is indeed one of the greatest music video ever made. And that guitar part where Johny Greenwood keep ascending his melody, it's just awesomeness. Pun intended.
Mille Grazie! Your comment made me Happy, always a pleasure for me to encounter a Radiohead fan 🎈🎈🎈 And how do you feel about this live video for 'National anthem'?.. a bit trashy maybe, but it is a take on getting the best spot at the rail; a precious experience and a hard struggle, hehe. Pretty unique and precious video for me, mostly for this reason.
I love it. Love the raw energy. I love the bass line with distortion sounds from Colin in this song. Seeing them live is always on my bucket list.
Ehehe... attending Radiohead gig nowadays is a pretty sore question! the tickets became extremely charged, and getting tickets as I remember is always a mess and some nasty rivalry. Besides that, they simply do not tour anymore. Maybe thats the end of the story. All of them went sideways for solo projects.
Personally, I happened to see them live only once, by the late In Rainbows tour. It was like I nailed one of my life goals, hehe. Sure thing, wish you all the best with this! 🙏
And a little Hive !PIZZA your way. 🍕

I opt out of that, cause, - you know its a great song no doubts, BUT every peep on Earth already in the know of it, even in case if he is deaf! so, actually, there is no sense in educating anybody about it, right? 🐈 I obey to my sudden impulses actually, it is often a result of choice, a game of random. I hate any planning. So cant say what will be next, really. But I am filled with nice music I'd love to share, thats for sure. Also, lets share this Hot Hive !PIZZA 🥰🍕 Thanks a lot for stopping by! 🎈🎈🎈
