Three Tune Tuesday #141 .:. jazz
Last week I watched review of the 'Wall of Eyes' LP - recent release by the 'Smile' (former Radiohead), and found out a new name which I'd love to share with you: Sons of Kemet. Thats a contemporary jazz; two other tracks I've included in my selection are also jazz, but not contemporary ones - oldie goldies from 60-es.
Sons of Kemet - Hustle
UK-based quartet at their most dynamic – showcasing harmonically elegant arrangements and compositions, coupled with fierce, driving material. Lyrics are pure fire and the entire musical production warms the soul. Dancers duo - The Jaiy - present some impressive symbolic struggle and engagement of black and white, beautiful plastic of the body language; it adds to the song a lot. All in all - remarkable piece of art!
Here is a live version of it, if you are curious how this may sound live; performed in the studio, Kojey Radical did not join the band, so it turned out an instrumental, without lyrics. Sounds like a cool jazz!
Charles Mingus - Freedom
Sun Ra - Rocket Number Nine
Sun Ra and his Solar Arkestar was such a crazy and curious project, that I cant pretend to fit even a brief description into a few lines. It belongs to the era of space jazz... and was a big extravaganza. Also, the discography with all releases and reissues and versions is so complicated... and elongated. Hard to choose most important and remarkable tracks to present. Just dive... and explore, if you'd fall in love with his crazy sound.
I hope you enjoyed today's music selection, though it is pretty much avangarde. No lipstick pop tunes today, ahaha! 😎 The post goes for Three Tune Tuesday challenge run by @ablaze. Just heard "Hustle". You ever had that feeling when you've been looking for a song for a while now and suddenly realize it's that song you're currently listening to. I'm so glad I tried the songs out. Amazing review @querrie.
Nice! thanx for the visit, and glad you liked selection.
Hmmm, no, I cant say that about myself. But I have many cases when I fall in love momentarily, understanding from the 1st sounds this song will be my massive fave. 😍 !LUV

Three musical stages with a common aim: breathing life into jazz.
Unfortunately, Charles Mingus is no longer able to do this - but as long as he could, he shone with inspiration.
Sons of Kemet were even on stage at my #jazz-matinee. The young British jazz generation is more diverse than it has been for a long time.
Sun Ra brings just about everything that makes me restless. He turns concentration into an unsolvable puzzle.
Great choice!
young British jazz generation is more diverse, and thats never a bad thing! I understand, all those names are not a news for you 😜 but still, there is such a common thing as 'joy of recognition', when you meet a good old friend, a name that you have been already acquainted with for a long time - and that can be a joy too! I would love to look at your fave picks from Sun-Ra and Mingus, as well! 🙏 Feel free to alert me in your blogs. 👍 !BEER

.Sons of Kemit officially added to my Playlist. Thanks for that!
Did my best with the jazz but my brain still doesn't get it!
😆
I did learn a bit more today. But the experimental stuff just does my head in a bit. 👀
Really cool post.
Grazie Mille, all the pleasure is mine!
I am happy you enjoyed visiting the post, that it was useful. Jazz is a tremendous planet, may take one a few lives to explore, but sometimes you need a fresh water to wash away sweet and sticky pop tunes - and here avant-garde / jazz / post-rock come to the rescue! 😜
Now THAT was a jazz journey ... Mingus and Sun Ra I knew, but I have not heard these -- and Sons of Kemet harks back to something far, far older than modern African Diasporic expression! An amazing collection of tunes -- thank you for sharing!
Meowww!! 🐈 I had no idea about the S.K. jazzers till yesterday too! Now this song is forever with me, and I explore their LP back and forward. Happy to spread the word! 🙏
I see the Radiohead connection 😉. I'm not a huge fan of jazz, but loved the contemporary piece. Deep lyrics and sound. It is quite amazing to see the live version become instrumental version. Beautiful!
Yeah! the connection is not obvious, but 'the Smile' is co-founded by two Radiohead leftovers and Tom Skinner - who is the drummer of 'Sons of Kemet'. Voyla! Thru the years and interviews, I used to consider Radiohead's drummer Phil Selway was 'the emotional core of the band, cementing the band together' - but now he is releasing his 3rd solo album, and the guys do not want to work together.
Interesting picks! I love some good jazz! Those are definitely some older ones, but very good! Great work!
