New homemade Quena (flute) music videos

avatar

Those who follow me know I have multiple hobbies and one of them is making flutes from bamboo: Native American style Flutes and Quenas mainly. It has been a while since I've posted updates on this topic so I thought with the new release of my collaboration, with Roberto Moreno, this would be a good opportunity. So here are the latest work I've done on my music channel on Youtube in reverse chronological order:

The Lion Sleeps Tonight

Roberto and I occasionally meetup on a Saturday afternoon for a jam at my place or somewhere on the Central Coast (NSW, Australia). A few weeks ago we were practicing "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and "This Little Light of Mine". I quickly created a backing track using Band-in-a-Box and it was very fun and easy to play so we decide we should collaborate for a little video to enrich our Youtube channel.

"The Lion Sleeps Tonight", also known as "Wimoweh" or "Mbube", was written by Solomon Linda in 1930s South Africa. It evolved into a global hit by The Tokens in 1961. Known for its catchy melody and chant-like "wimoweh" refrain, the song portrays a serene jungle where a lion sleeps, blending African roots with Western pop.

So we each recorded our audio and video at home and I collected Roberto's assets and edited them in Logic Pro and Davinci Resolve.

One point I've always been struggling with is how to deal with this kind of collaborative work when making a music video for two artists. Who gets to post the video? We both want to grow our channel so would ideally want to post the video on each of our channel (which we've been doing) but this would dilute traffic to each of the video right? This time, I've edited two versions of the video so it won't look like a total duplicate. But still not sure. Maybe next time we will wait until we have recorded two songs one of us upload one song the other uploads the other song, then wait maybe a month or so and we would upload the song we didn't. What do you guys think could work?

Meng Li Qing Ren (夢里情人)

I used to live in Montpellier (South of France) during my university time and I met BUI Pham-Thang an awesome musician who played for a Vietnamese wedding band. We became flatmates at some points and were doing music together. Until now, we are still in contact from across the globe thanks to the Internet and we also occasionally collaborate on some stuffs. "Meng Li Qing Ren". I covered this song in the past, but my friend wanted to make a different version with me, so he played the backing track on his keyboard and sent me the MP3 to work with.

More than the Lion King, this song reminds me of my dad, who in life was the one who taught it to me through an extraordinary choral arrangement. I'm glad to have come across this post and this delightful version. I went to Youtube to give it a Like there too 🥰
