Open Mic week 159 You've got a Friend (Cover)

After a couple of very busy weeks, I've been able to come on here and listen to some of your entries for the great theme for this week.

There is an old saying 'You can't choose your family but you can choose your friends'. I've been spectacularly lucky on both fronts. I have a great family and many very lovely friends. I have some that I play music with, such as @steevc, @daniellemurray, @anna-newkey and @steve-o2023. I truly treasure their friendship, especially so because they share my interests and have supported me by playing at concerts I have organised.

I have friends from my childhood and teenage years that I went to school and college with. I have a group of friends who I made through my brother, and another group all living close by in Milton Keynes. I consider myself to be very fortunate indeed.

After I almost died with meningitis, one friend in particular was there for me. I could barely stand up, let alone look after myself. She came over, cleaned, washed up and made sure I had enough food in the house. She can be a very difficult person to be around sometimes, but I can forgive her anything. She was the person who looked out for me, when I couldn't look out for myself. I will never forget that and I will always be there for her. If you have one real friend you are very, very lucky.

The song I have recorded is about being there for your friend, no matter what happens. I hope you all have a friend like that.
