Turtles Through the Looking Glass

Turtle, Shine Instead
for A.B.
break on through
to the other side
crack the bony armour
depart this fragile state
this planetoid ego
or keep searching
for a message
for understanding
of the alien
within the shell
find some exuberance
rest until recharged
it’s a long journey
for those that string lights
and gather data
for the time being
be loquacious; be silent
be a turtle with a habit
of sticking his neck out
choose the lengthy ride
be the glowing dome
whose slow progress
warms and illuminates
frozen black iciness
it’s only dark
because you haven’t gotten there yet
the other side
is just a dissolve
nothing worth rushing for
a fade to black
then you start over again
shine instead, little turtle
We made our almost annual Christmas visit to the Vancouver Aquarium. Enjoyed the abbreviated 4-D version of the Polar Express. Always a treat.
Then we spent the next few hours communing with the fishes, mammals, and reptiles of the deep. I got lots and lots of photos and will not feature them all today. It would be a very long post if I did, and I would prefer to hilight each of the motifs. So I will be talking about the Aquarium for weeks to come.
Of course Mr. Turtle had to go with Turtle, Shine Instead.
There is no trip to a modern day aquarium ... anywhere ... without the inclusion of Dory and Nemo. It is quite challenging getting decent photos through thick aquarium glass, without having the shots spoiled with reflection and glare. And so I am happy with these ones.
I can't prepare a post for @dswigle without at flower.
These wild 'uns were growing in a field across from the Planetarium this past summer. A sea of petals if you will have it:)
This Angel Fish was very friendly and somewhat vain if you ask me, but alas the ambient lights around its oval tank was competing for focus.
Let's pretend the effect is arty, shall we?

The music paired with the sea turtles was perfect. Watching them propel through the water, was like a ballet, if one would care to compare. I love the aquarium, and I have to be honest, your shots of the turtle are enviable. I have to say that I am so enamored with the jellies, I missed out on giving fair play to the turtles the last time I was there. Baltimore, which is less than an hour away has a fabulous aquarium, and I go there since Washington, DC had to close.
I love the attention you give, paired up with your words, it is such a nice way to present. I saw Nemo and Dory!!! You are too cool! 😍 Thank you! And for the flower as well! #alwaysaflower They are gorgeous!
I want to thank you for being a part of the #MarketFriday Challenge. I have personally found there is always so much to learn about people, where they live, and how things are done in different parts of the world. For me, reaching out across the globe and learning about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, has been such a rewarding experience. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the rituals, festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... and what is normal for us? There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. We do differ in many ways, which makes us interesting and unique, but, there are many ways in which are so much alike.
