Conjured Memories

IMG_2407.jpeg

The ocean outweighs the land
yet earth offers heavier substance

water no matter how vast
no matter how deep
like your love
evades my grip

IMG_2338.jpeg

So tread I must upon murky shores
my feet entwined among seagrass
a messy but solid way
surefooted, I am not, but each fall ends

The descent from you does not
I go nowhere
yet in stillness, plummet faster

IMG_2329.jpeg

Feet are earthbound
but a mind may reach beyond
aided by senses
that need no touch

I watch for you …

IMG_2338 (3).jpeg

upon the wave-crests
or emerging from deep currents
you ignore the pull of the moon
shirk-off the insistence of the tides

I listen for you …

only an indecipherable message is delivered
upon the fickle breath
of a mercurial
absent-minded zephyr

IMG_2335.jpeg

I smell you in the sea-breeze
only a memory of what you no longer are

Taste …
remembrance preserved
in the dried remnants of a prickly brine

IMG_2323.jpeg

If only my mind could throw off time
my body supersede its senses
then I might once again swim in your depths
with smooth and sure strokes
conjure what I struggle to remember

Market Friday

IMG_2404.jpeg

Once a month the Beaty Biodiversity Museum at UBC hosts a pay-what-you-can evening. These evenings often feature a science lecture or a nature art exhibit.

This month's offering featured the book launch for Linda PJ Lipson's, Pressed Plants, Making a Herbarium, and free food, which is always a pleasant surprise.

I have shown photos from Beaty a time or two for #marketfriday, hosted by the beautiful, wise, and kind @dswigle but not today. For today's blog, we travelled across Main Mall and behind the Oceans and Earth Sciences Main Building to the Pacific Museum of Earth.

Yep, they do have dinosaurs. The exhibit is small but free. It closes at 5pm; so get there early. Combined with the pay-what-you-can evening at Beaty, it is a great outing for homeschoolers and science enthusiasts.

In addition to dinosaur bones, they have an excellent rock and mineral collection and geology learning aids. We have been going for years, and as your child's understanding of science increases, so does the value of both museums.

Perhaps, a few titters will also be offered up.

And stone roses.

The hi-light for minime is the the gem and space room. For me too. They have an amazing collection of precious jewels and you can take a virtual trip through space and time ... way back. Can anyone say cosmic microwave?

You can't claim I never take you anywhere, Hivelanders. Here is hoping everyone has a terrific weekend:)

You always take us somewhere special, but, I have to admit, our field trips to the Science Museum or the Planetarium are the best. Wait! I love the jewels too. I know, I am spoiled, but, what girl doesn't love a few sparklies?

The first photos with words that embrace my soul. It is a gift, to be sure. The entire post is exploding with wonder. The dinosaurs right up to space.

Le sigh.

Hello!! Market Friday is running so late this week, apologies! I was under the spell of the family holiday, surrounded by family and obligations, although they are heart-warming wonderful ones! No internet or sketchy at best has been my best friend. Yikes, right? To be honest, I tried and failed to even post this week, but, I was so very happy to see you putting one out! Thank you! I apologize for the delay in answering and I hope you know how much I appreciate the great participation.

I try to let people know how much I appreciate their participation in #MarketFriday! Even though I get many on a weekly basis, each one is read and enjoyed. I find it interesting to compare, not by the world's standards, but, by how we find the quality of our life with different I enjoy learning more about you and hope you feel the same, that is why I find it important to take the time to read a couple of #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment. There have been so many carrying #MarketFriday for me in my absence! I am so happy to see that! I leave you with the guidelines. I hope you are having an amazing week!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product. Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work. Things need to be explained.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
5.PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
  6. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

The planetarium is a wonderful escape; I find it a spiritual.
