darkly gestated
under a blanket of white
womb’d in soft umber
awaiting the slow passage
of a crepuscular tide
ashen to limpid
ice melts; spring burgeons anew
infant petals bud
avowal of coming life
with each and every pale bloom
I'm back. Boy was I lost on the most unholy of saint's days. I hope for those of you who were feeling like me that rocking out to Joan Jett helped. She is somewhat shamanic, Ms. Jett. And can throw a mean axe at that.
Jett obtained a certain amount of fame, she still remains under-appreciated as a Rock God, as do the Runaways.
Glam metal bands that came after are quick to give credit to their male band predecessors and leave out the girls. Where in truth they flattened the grooves of their Runaways' vinyl. Bands like Motley Crue and Poison are basically guy derivatives of Jett and the gals. And let's be honest ... a less hard, more opiated, over-produced version of the Runaways.
In comparison to this, Vince and the boys come across a cute.
I'll be honest when I first heard this song, I thought it was about fruit. Don't try this one at home. I am not saying the Runaways were an entirely good influence, but they knew how to rock hard.
They were glam without being cartoonish.
We can thank Stranger Things for reintroducing popular culture to this narrative rock piece.
The Runaways only lasted four years; arguably their first eponymous LP was the best. Their first LP WAS the best.
What is about commercial success that turns brilliance to disposable drivel? Over-production in later works smoothed out their edge and robbed them of the individuality that later male hairbands groups would pilfer without giving much credit.
Speed it up and even Metallica owns them a debt.
