Black Adam Rip
Our local cineplex offers a second-run family movie on Saturday mornings. This Saturday it was DC's Black Adam.
Dwayne Johnson cuts an impressive figure in the titular role of the ancient Babylonianesque slave turned demigod and anti-hero, Teth-Adam.
Like Superman, Black Adam flies and is bullet proof, scratch that, missile-proof. He is pretty much unbeatable, indestructible, and looks the most muscular in his tight pants; and alas in possession of a pretty rusty moral compass. He is no hero he tells us, is motivated by revenge, the crushing of his enemies' bones, and does a mean impersonator of the Koolaid jug.
Apparently doors are for beta males and farmboys from Krypton.
The powers that be, a woman I should recognize if I paid closer attention to earlier DC movies, are pretty worried that Adam will cause un-balancing havoc ... like for instance destroying the corporation that has colonized and is in the process of strip-mining his fictional, but looks a whole like Iraq, homeland of Kahndaq.
Apparently balance requires oppression, but at a distance. Okay then. What are superhero flicks for, if not for suspending disbelief?
Not to worry help is on the way. No, not superman and fellow demigoddes, Wonder Woman, Batman, the other man in Black, Batman, and the Flash.
No for some reason, likely to do with budget, the Rock doesn't come cheap, they sent in not the A-team, the Justice League, but the lesser known and definitely not as powerful, Justice Society.
The Justice Society features a Gold Headed Doctor Strange/Fate, played by Pierce Bronson, Storm/Cyclone, Antman/Atom Smasher, and a dude in a bird suit, Hawk. Basically, flying Wolverine. Even with this level of derivation, they were no match for the lone Black Adam.
Geez ... I mean ... who to call ... who to call? I am reminded of the late arrival of Captain Marvel in Infinity Wars. Again, you can't play the Deux en Machina at the beginning; it makes for a short movie.
I have to admit I got a kick out of watching how frustrated Hawk got when he realized he was no match for the lightening strength of Black Adam, even with all his morality and code of honor. A complete sense of superiority brought down to Earth even with his golden wings.
Spoiler: Superman does eventually make an appearance but in the bonus scene. Promises of a second instalment to come.
As far a superhero movies go, it was good enough. I did quite enjoy its sound track and will leave you with a couple samples.

Beautiful 🥰
Warner rebooting already, all these movies are old universe it seems. I think they’ll regret cutting the Rock out unless I’m mistaken. But Superman was fired indeed. I actually think he was good at playing the role… I think this category is going to take a hit. Marvel aka Disney ruined it with political messaging especially in everything post 2018. Good old crony corrupt corporate overlords taking people’s favorite things and ruining them!
I like superhero movies but my heart belongs to the Star Wars Universe. Have you seen Andor? The writers have to be turned on.
All these flowers looks so beautiful and amazing. The way you are talking about this movie I am also thinking to watch it because it looks very interesting.
Thank you. It is worth the watch.
