Bands and Musicians I’ve Seen Performing Live

IMG_2340.jpeg

I’m at the age where I’m starting to forget things. So I do occasional brain dumps and write things here and there to remind myself. No overt dementia yet, but my mom officially had it and my dad was likely sliding into it near the end although he was never diagnosed with it.

So here’s a partial list of bands and musicians I’ve seen at one point or another. There’s probably more than a few that I’ve missed. I went to a lot of shows in my twenties and early thirties but scaled back significantly after I became a dad. A few of these were during high school in New Jersey. Most were in Minnesota at venues such as First Avenue, The Longhorn Bar, various U of M locations, house parties, etc. Some are famous worldwide, others from the Twin Cities music scene of the late seventies and early eighties. Oddly, I never went to see Prince.

Impressive list, and partial at that. I have a few ticket stubs for major acts but trying to remember some local bands I saw might prove difficult. :)

Seeing the band "Clutch" live a few times and they always deliver... when we first went to see them we were sceptical that they could perform, but holy heck yeah they are amazing live!

What a list! What year was Dizzy's concert? Do you remember if there was any famous Cuban drummer or trumpeter with him?

Ballpark 1980 but I don’t remember any of the accompanists.

Thanks for your feedback. I searched and he worked a lot that year with Mongo Santamaria, a great Cuban drummer who first introduced Chick Corea to a recording studio. Maybe Dizzy performed Manteca that day in Ballpark. Best regards from Havana.

“Ballpark” as in approximately. I think I saw Dizzy at Northrop Auditorium, but it might have been another venue.
