TTT Week 269: ¿What's behind sharing songs? ...it's my MeMe #351

I have said before on many occasions that I am a music lover. An old melomaniac with pretty eclectic musical tastes in many, diverse and different music genres and styles. And that my musical tastes can range from the oldest, most unreleased and unknown music to you to the most recent, up-to-date and avant garde that you can listen nowadays.

However, that doesn't mean I don't have a preference for any particular genre or style of music. Yeah, of course I have my preferences in the music I listen to and like to share. What we might call the genre, style or type of music in general that mostly characterizes my musical essence, defines my personality and is what plays inside me most of the time.

And it is precisely in this genre and musical style that I come once again to share with you my rich selection of tunes for today's week 269 of Three Tune Tuesday. A generous heap of very cheerful & uplifting tunes that you will find at the end of this post. But which you will only be allowed to enjoy them after you have read, digested and meditated about some previous concepts that I have written throughout this post before getting to them. And for which I hope everything will be of great benefit to you.

In today's selection you'll surely find some tunes that I've already shared before. And you'll also find some I've never shared before. But in any case, what I wanted to emphasize here today is that these bands whose songs I've shared more than once below, they are precisely the bands I recommend following to enjoy of more of their great talent and musical skills, their prolific musical catalogue and repertoire and further material. ¡Enjoy!

Sharing songs is a universal love language and maybe also an act of vulnerability. When someone shares songs or sends you a track, they are essentially saying: "This is what I feel, but couldn't put into words". It bridges emotional gaps, builds trust and allows people to form deeper connections by sharing a piece of their inner world.

Beyond deep emotional expression, sharing songs serves a variety of purposes:

Emotional Communication & Empathy.

  • Speaking the Unspoken: Lyrics and melodies often capture the complexity of emotions. Whether it is love, grief or joy in ways everyday conversation cannot.

  • Mutual Understanding: Sharing music is a window into a person’s soul. People use it as a tool to help others understand them better on a deeper level.

Neurological & Social Bonding.

  • Chemical Release: Science shows that music can act as a social magnet. It triggers the release of pleasure-inducing chemicals like endorphins and activates the areas of the brain that process feelings.

  • Building Trust: Exchanging music preferences helps establish trust and strengthens interpersonal relationships.

Memory & Identity.

  • Anchoring Moments: Songs often serve as historical markers or soundtracks to specific periods of our lives.

  • Self-Expression: The songs we curate and share reflect our personalities, identities and how we want others to see us.

Community & Exploration.

  • Fostering Community: Whether for artists releasing tracks or fans discussing lyrics, music brings people together and cultivates a sense of belonging in groups.

  • Broadening Horizons: Sharing music allows people to expand their own and others' musical scopes, fostering new discoveries.

Music has always been a very integral component in my life and I always have felt a strong passion for it. The connections I have made through music are unique and incomparable. Between the friendships that have been forged from liking the same music to discovering a long time friend has the same guilty pleasure song as you, the bonds through music seem to be my strongest.

Not only do you get to expand a friend's musical scope and your own. But because by sharing the music that we are into, we are able to create new ways of exposure to music too.

Because every time we share a song with a friend, we usually get a flashback of those good memories that come along with it. Little gets me excited like the phrase “Please, can you play this song for me?” if only because what you’re really saying to me is: “I want you to know this about me.” After all, all we have of each other is what we’ve felt ready to share.

When the people in tow nod along to a verse, a melody a cadence or a rhythm of a song we share, we usually feel understood. We are being struck by the same thing. Our unconscious is actually tapping their unconscious on the shoulder, and therefore they’re totally hitting it off. Maybe all of this is because we are a bit insecure, but not because we worry about our musical taste. We worry over how we will be received. The song is but a song, but the song is firstly a reflection of ourselves.

Furthermore, all of this also revolves around time. Since all we have to give is time. Love is a manifestation of time. When we review a song or an album, we note their length, and if we feel at any given time that we are wasting our time while listening to it, then it might be an offense worse than most.

When you share music with another person, you are asking them for their time. You make a promise that their time is going to be well spent. We’re partners now, so they trust that you will treat their time with love and care. And then, that's when you press play. We often take for granted the implicit promises made when we pass the earphones, but they exist and they mean the world to us storied music heads.

What we often forget about sharing is that it is fundamentally a type of curation. When you curate, your mind is on the heart of another person. Curation, of course, is a shape of love. Curation is how we establish our chosen friends and partners.

And of course, everyone knows the high of getting a good reaction when it’s your turn with the earphones, but there is something deeper than recognition and validation going on here. At its core, what we have is an exchange of selves. With every track shared, we are creating new ground to communicate who exactly we are and what exactly we love, and in that way, we are loving each other over and over again. We feel like we are bonded. And consequently, many Tuesdays I wonder and ask myself...

¿Don't we feel bonded yet?
