¡I need more Hammonds & strident guitars for this TTT contest! ...it's my MeMe #200
As I suppose that many people in the Music community, in the Q Inspired-by-Music community and in the Three Tune Tuesday community already must know. Three weeks ago I launched a musical contest for them that was quite easy to win and with what today could be considered a pretty juicy prize to obtain if they simply participated and competed.
And just a week ago, I announced that the contest would be extended for another week solely to see if we could surpass the minimum of the only five contestants we had achieved until that moment. But unfortunately no one else signed up, and the contest ends today, at this very moment with the publication of this post. So, no more extensions folks.
Therefore, today I will only limit myself to announce the official winner of the contest, the score he achieved in it and send him his prize right away. In addition to also revealing in this post the correct answers that had to be given to the five questions to win the contest:
The questions of the contest:
Q1.- What do you think impressed me most about this young band, and why do you think I liked their music so much? (3 points)
A.- What I liked the most and I was most impressed by this young band is how they manage to recapture the authentic soul and feeling of the music of the 60s and 70s so remarkably well. Which certainly stir deeply your memories and makes you experience, relive and remember many of the best moments and episodes of your life in the distant past.
Q2.- Being me an old follower, big fan, reckless music collector and erudite connoisseur of rock music. ¿Why do you think so much time passed before I stumbled across this excellent young rock band? (2 points)
A.- Well, in my opinion I think I hadn't come across this young band before, simply because Rock music with the authentic soul and feeling of the 60s and 70s is no longer widely broadcast on commercial radio because it is now considered obsolete or a crude copy of what was previously created. And therefore only available on alternative broadcasting media to be found only by the avid collectors and true connoisseurs of the best Rock music in history.
Q3.- Which of the five main songs I've shared above do you think is my favorite and I like the most? (2 points)
A.- Of the five songs selected in the contest, the one I liked the most was "Edge Of Darkness" for obvious reasons. And while all five are excellent, "Edge of Darkness" is my absolute favorite for the simple fact that by its 70s groove/mood at the start, and above all, the extremely energetic guitar solo performed by Jake jointly with the unique voice of his brother Josh at the end, this was the song that most easily transported me back to the real spirit of my best Rock moments in the past.
Q4.- What other song of this band that you have heard before do you think I would like as much as the ones I've already selected? (1 points)
A.- Well, I have to admit that this was quite a difficult and even tricky question when it came to guessing the correct answer. Because in fact, any of their other excellent songs could have been the correct answer. And obviously, it would have required you delving deeper into their extensive musical repertoire from their beginnings. So, knowing that, I basically had already decided to award that single point to whoever answered that question with any song. Nonetheless, I would have given some advantage to whoever responded with songs as: "Waited All Your Life" and "Standing On" because that would have meant that you know very well my taste for acoustic versions of 70s rock as well as pieces with plenty of blues slide guitars in it.
Q5.- To which famous song, memorable performance, and great rock band from the 70s do you think the fifth song "Edge Of Darkness" reminds me of big time? (4 points)
A.- Well, the famous song, memorable performance, and great rock band from the 70s to which their song "Edge Of Darkness" reminds me of big time. It is none other than the legendary song "Freebird" by the great rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd specifically carried out in that memorable performance Live at BBC Television Theatre, London, England in 1975.

So there you have it. Those above are the correct answers to the five questions in the contest. And given that no one else wanted to participate in the contest in these three weeks nor did the previous contestants who had already given their answers wanted to edit and modify them to try to improve their score. Then, I declare the absolute winner of the contest to my friend @edje for his outstanding participation in the challenge, his enthusiastic and diligent effort in answering the questions correctly and his amazing memory, knowledge and intuition of what an old Cranky Gandalf really likes the most.
Therefore, congratulations @edje. You have been the undisputed winner of this contest with a score of 6 points. And therefore I have already sent you your well-deserved prize, as shown in the receipt and screenshot below:
Please check and confirm if you have received it yet.

As for the rest of the purpose of this post and what its title implies regarding that "I need more hammonds & strident guitars for these TTT contests". Today being Tuesday and therefore a Three Tune Tuesday day to share kickass music. Today I wanted to take this opportunity to show you what in Rock music an old Cranky Gandalf thinks truly contains the authentic spirit, soul, feeling and sound of the 70s.
Basically anything with a good keyboardist cheerfully galloping on a Hammond organ, a funky playful bassist that knows how to set the groovy pace well, a kickass guitarrist stage fright-free who knows how to get the most out of his solos with a lot of fuzzy, wah-wah and overdrive riffs and who largely dominates the slider to bring out the bluesiest sounds from his instrument, a skilled drummer who masters the drumsticks with both hands and makes your soul rumble in your chest to follow his rhythm plus the raunchy and gritty harmonica of a virtuoso appearing from time to time to accompany the swampy, inhospitable but delicious atmosphere. That my friend, that's what I say truly contains the authentic spirit, soul, feeling and sound of my dear 70s. So...
«Yeah more Harmonicas too»

WOW, who would've guessed - a guy who isn't into rock - able to win this contest.
Regarding the number of contestants: The state rock music is in these days is reflected by the number of Hiveans entering and being able to guess their way to correct answers, I suppose.
I must admit, I find it bold of these young lads to go deep into rock when rock is known way more in the expression "sex, drugs and rock & roll" than for the music itself.
Just checked Spotify. Amazing the amount of streams they have. Above 300M for their most-streamed track: "Highway Tune" and just shy of 4M monthly listeners. You are not alone, that is for sure 🙂
In comparison, Charlotte de Wit, classified as the 'best' Techno-DJ in the world - with Techno being mainstream these days - has 2.2M monthly listeners with her most streamed track not reaching 100M. Since Techno is mainstream; Gazillion people going to festivals just for her; Her performing on festivals such as Tomorrowland with 1M+ tickets sold per event; It is specifically remarkable Greta van Fleet attracts such an audience.
Salient detail, while Charlotte may be ranked Queen of Techno, the best in the field, for years, her music is not Techno at all. Not anymore. While she started her career in this sub-genre, her music these days can not be classified as Techno. It is EDM. The genre invented/created - more or less - by Tijs aka Tiesto. The genre that bridges the underground music to the masses. At some point, people decided to call all this underground electronic music - electronic dance music (EDM), while in fact, EDM is the bridge itself and has little to do with what it bridges, except that it is music.
Anyways, thank you for this challenging challenge. Was great fun to enter. It made me listen to all the tracks you shared, and let me watch the interview in its full length, which in itself enriched me overall.
LoL yeah, ¡WOW! :D
But in all truth, the contest actually wasn't about Rock music by itself. But rather about show deep attention to details, having an impeccable good memory and having nurtured friendships over the years with enough loyalty and affection as to have developed a great intuition and empathy as to be able to guess with big accuracy what they (others) really like the most in Rock music, although rock music was not your thing. Rare qualities in which you have excelled brilliantly.
Absolutely and yeah I agree. In my opinion the population of Hive is still too young and therefore they know too little about what an old Cranky Gandalf like me can ask them about anything. They have not yet lived and suffered enough. Especially if it's to win a prize. Since no one wants to look bad or be publicly ridiculed. A curious ailment that most young people seems to suffer from today. Although I hope and aspire that with age their ailments will heal and they will be able to give more than three fucks if they are right or wrong about anything, like we old people usually do.
Yeah, that's precisely the phenomenon with these virtuous young guys. Although in my opinion, when one is truly authentic, skilled, self-confident and charismatic, one is not get carried away so easily by expressions, taglines or slogans. They just limit themselves to keep exploring and being themselves more and more with great success. And to better illustrate what I'm talking about, let me share this video with you, which you will find very revealing about this phenomenon.
LoL yeah, we ol'farts live longer these days. And perhaps that explains the very high audience they have achieved so far. And maybe also because we old folks are more loyal to quality when it reminds us of happier times. So, 4 million monthly listeners who have more things to remember than most people doesn't sound so far-fetched to me. Haha, yeah, I'm not alone indeed!
I'm afraid I'm not very familiar with Charlotte de Wit's music and material, although I've certainly heard her name before, and as you know, my musical tastes are quite eclectic. I will try to listen to some of her sets in the next few days to see what's all about her EDM stuff.
But yeah, musically today everything happens in very different tribes, even more exclusive, different and distinctive tribes than in the past. That's why in this new culture of DJs and electronic music as such, there are so many diverse and varied musical genres.
It's always a great pleasure for me to feed you and nurture you with new things that you probably wouldn't consume otherwise, my friend. The feedback and good vibe is mutual, brother. And when that happens, the reciprocal enrichment knows no bounds.
And last but not least. Thank you very much for your wonderful gesture, your recognition, and your great generosity. It's highly and very well appreciated buddy. In this way, it's always a great pleasure and a great joy to launch contests on Hive.
