Baile de la LLora. Transcripción musical

Good morning! Continuing with my contribution to the transcriptions of traditional Venezuelan music, in this post I bring you excerpts from the melodies of the "Dance of the Cry," a work that appears in my book, "The Mandolin in Venezuela."

This traditional dance is celebrated in La Victoria and Zuata, Aragua State, on November 2nd of each year, the Day of the Dead. It consists of a series of dances performed around a tree in a circle formed by pairs of men and women: La Sambainina, La Vaca, El Oso, La Chispa, San Juan y la Magdalena, and El Palito. Amidst songs and choruses alluding to tradition, they use their musical instruments: the Carángano, a horizontal instrument with strings played by direct percussion, where one person strikes the strings with sticks while another carries a bladder or gourd filled with seeds, complementing the rhythm; the mandolin; the cuatro; the tambora; and the maracas.
