I have a funny story that came to mind while reading your post... Before getting married, my father-in-law had an interesting observation and distrust of me (and his daughter) to be able to take care of ourselves... He said, "You don't even
know how to light a fire." 😃 I clearly remember those words, despite being said over 20 years ago... 😂

I suppose we weren't better than your students... We know the theory, but improvisation, going by the flow, time to adapt to hard circumstances, USE the knowledge in a practical way... That was always the problem... I didn't learn those things in school, but I did in my real life, along with my parents, and later on, by myself...

Not sure if the current schooling is making the same mistake, but the problem is that I see many children having 0 interaction with parents, no "practical" way of living, no camping, no playing by the river, in the forest, helping out with home chores, etc.
