Before getting to the second part of your post, my first thought was on books! How much they helped me in my tough years, even more than people that I needed in those times... Of course, human touch and support are important, but also other things that you stated are equally important too! I suppose the background is always the same... In hard moments, the most important thing is to UNDERSTAND... Understand yourself, but also others, your surroundings, the reasons why we are as we are, etc.

It's always an effort, albeit a worthwhile one. Reminding yourself that we're all just people, that there's so many points of view and perspectives to consider. Yes, books are an unsung hero - we make it out like it's sad if you rely more on books/music than on people, but isn't that the point of art to begin with?
