Are You Building Followers or Leaders? 1200 Followers Reached! .:. WorkerBee PH-Pool Week 154
I have reached another small milestone on my HIVE journey! I got the number of followers up to 1200! As I like to find some patterns in numbers, and I like to re-evaluate my work, I take a look back at my old posts trying to find my previous posts when I got 1100, 1000, and 900 followers... And I did find them and what is a bit more important, I measured the time differences between these small milestones... So, to get from 900 to 1000 followers, I needed around 6 months... To climb further to 1100 followers, I needed another 5 months, and finally to get to 1200 followers, I needed an additional 3.5 months! Do you see the snowball effect?
I don't like the word "followers" at all... It can be very misleading and in some way offending... I would rather use the word "friends", or something similar, especially as I found every Hivian as a friend, and an equal person to myself... Using the word "follower" it sounds like they are "under you", which isn't true... What does the number of followers mean to you?

When you follow others, what do you expect from the person that you follow? Do you expect some insider tips on potential tokens to invest in? Do you expect them to tell you what to do? Do you expect them to guide you through good and bad?
What do you expect from your followers? To comment on your posts? To upvote all your content?
More followers mean more influence, more influence means more followers... The second time used word "followers" usually means exactly what it says... Unfortunately, many people literally FOLLOW all the actions of the author... That's something that I want to avoid by all means as in that way, as followers NEVER grow in something more... If you just copy what the other person is doing, you are just REACTING on already "regurgitated" content, and you are a step behind... Because of that, I'm trying to avoid giving "predictions", shilling coins, convincing people to do one thing or another, or telling them to go to X, do this, click here, etc.
If you are going to authors just to get your comment upvoted, or seeking a short benefit, you will ALWAYS stay in that mindset... Even if you are "successfully" getting those upvotes, or tap on the shoulder... Having thousands of followers who are coming to your content for those reasons will not help you grow either!!
You want to build leaders, you want to build a community where you have debates and discussions with your audience... There is no worse thing than a comment section full of people who are praising you... If that happens, you are doing something wrong... Your audience helps YOU grow! Their input, feedback, criticism, are HELPING you to grow! Because of that, be grateful when you see people giving you "hard love" in the comment section... That means that they care!

Back to the Workerbee report numbers!
Wow... I was complaining last week about how we had only a few movements out and in the pool, but this week was exactly how the complete crypto market was... No movements... For the first time ever, there was no delegation or undelegation in the last 7 days! In addition to that, we were unlucky with mining this week and our results are under the average... This usually means that our luck will change next week...
In the last 7 days, we mined 85 BEE tokens in total!!!
This POOL doesn't have fees and you get up to 20% MORE by delegating to it!
What about the bonus tokens?
In these boring market days, I have a feeling that people have fallen asleep and we have even fewer Hivians active... As a result, it happens what happened today for the LEO token... The price dumped by 15% as the BUY order book stayed too thin... Of course, I jumped in and bought some cheap tokens and I decided to give away some of those to you as a bonus rewards!
There will be distributed 40 LEO tokens to the delegators of the pool as a bonus reward today!
As always, in the end, let's give the exact numbers for this week... There will be distributed 85 BEE tokens and 40 LEO tokens as a bonus... The APR (without the bonus) was 5.842%, and when we added the bonus it went up to 6.937%!
I have calculated the ROI approximately with medium prices for all tokens at the moment of creating this post... So, those numbers are valid if you bought WB and sold BEE tokens at the middle HiveEngine price...

Most of them become inactive users, therefore followers later.
That's true (for HIVE, but for other networks too... I don't see too big a difference), but I don't create content for the majority... I'm doing it for those who care, and they are usually a minority...
It is just a number, I do get that... But it is important to have some kind of connection with our friends here... ;)

That is great to see your followers increase with each milestone reached and faster. Perserverance certainly pays off! I haven't really thought about the number of followers as much recently as I did when I first started on Hive, but I think it is good to have an audience and more is usually better.
I think that it was 2 years ago when I had the number of followers as #MyHiveGoals and I failed gloriously to reach that one... lol... My main excuse was that it is an unpredictable number (and it is), but if some good work is put behind, it should be positive...
Anyway, I still have some excuses when I compare my followers to, for example, my wife's followers... 😂 She is killing me as she has more and she came later to HIVE, but the audience is completely different... 😃
That's good. More followers will know about everything you're doing.

Congrats on your latest milestone! These numbers can be a bit tricky though. For some reason (much higher token price, hype etc), it was much easier to gain followers back in 2017 and 2018. With your impressive level of engagement, if you started your journey here a year or two earlier, you would most probably have a couple of thousands of followers by now. On the other hand, most of my followers from the first years are now dead accounts anyway :D :/

Oh, I do get there... When I came to HIVE and saw those numbers, I thought it would be easy for me to accumulate similar to old Hivians... I have even added the number of followers as one of my old #MyHiveGoals, but I failed to reach it for a huge number... Then I realized that it would not go as easy as I imagined...
On the other side, it is just a number that can be much bigger but with low post engagement, or much lower, but with higher post engagement... For that reason, I'm not following that number so closely, but I like to "celebrate" these small achievements when they are rounded numbers... 😃
In the end, what counts the most is this engagement on the posts and the friends that we can have a drink with in real life... In Krakow, or the next HiveFest 😃

I would also take smaller fan base but with nice, lively and organic engagement rather than a huge number of followers but with ghost town comment sections :) But just like you, I also like to celebrate round milestones here ;) With my current (non existent) engagement though, it will take me forever to hit that 4k mark :/
I always had an issue with the "follower" terminology too. My first thought (before reading your post), was also that "friends" might be more suitable, and it is, but probably not all "followers" are your friends either, even in the broader online sense.
I sometimes refer to "readers" in my posts (and I find myself in this category often), which is broader than "followers" but reflects more accurately people who take an interest in your content, at least tangentially. Of course, from them, the ones that are the most important are those with whom you have two-way communication, and so we exchange opinions and maybe influence each other because there is no absolute truth that one or another holds. I understand not everyone has time to comment, thus I include in this category people who express their appreciation of the content through upvotes.

Yeah, "friends" sounds too "close" as while I do know many people who are following me (even in real life), the majority are "observers" and can't be called "friends"...
I like the term "reader"... I have a similar issue with the show that I'm running in Ecency Discord on Wednesdays... It is again about the "terminology" and I don't like to use the term "audience" as in some way it sounds "too passive"... So, I like to use the term "participants" I try to involve them in discussion, and when they are active participants, they are not "just an audience"... It's very similar to the debate about "followers" (at least in my head... lol...)
Yeah, I tend to agree (although I sometimes use 'audience'), that it implies a passive role instead of an active one. And you like your show to be interactive, in which case 'participants' is definitely more appropriate.
I like the term friends or stranger 😂 instead of follower but it is what it is.
I also had this epiphany after checking out youtube where it appears every content creator treats everyone that sees/subscribe them not as equal. It's strange because they're making money because these people that subscribed and checks out their content. Treating them in that type of dynamic is fairly odd to me. I guess some of these people have that star syndrome.
YouTube is a completely different beast... Those "influencers" are mostly ruthless and after they get very "powerful" you can notice how they lose connection with the real world (I followed some from their early days and you can notice the difference easily)... Nothing is more important than numbers going up and money going up... Those "crypto traders" are my favorites... In one video they say BTC goes up, in the other one they say go down... After a week, they pull out one of those two and say "I PREDICTED IT!" 😂
Income from trading 0, income from YT ads, and shilling paid sponsorship tokens 100%! Followers are served to be sheep who swallow all the words and promises, and lose money...
Congratulations, man, you're doing a great job. I'm not getting a lot of followers these days. I was gaining followers very fast for a while, probably because I'm posting less and not going to different communities. I'm going to try this.
The only thing I think about when I follow someone is if they are active on Hive and if I like their posts. That's enough reason for me 😂
Well, I'm still very far away from some other people on HIVE with getting followers, but I'm not putting that as my priority... It was just interesting to see the rounded number and to check the history...
Also, regarding engagement, I'm doing like 5% of what you are doing and I'm not happy about it.... I could do a lot more, but time is a very limiting factor at this moment...
As I'm not getting too much in different communities, I'm moving very slowly with followers... So, I suppose to get more followers, it is a mix of engagement, going to other communities, and of course, delivering valuable content to your readers! And it depends a lot on the content that you are following/writing... If you are interested ONLY in "one thing", I suppose it limits your audience...
In the end, it's not all about the quantity of followers, but more about the quality!

As I said in another comment reply on this post, I have a similar impression of using the word "audience" in the #HHHLive show in DIscord... That's why I try to avoid that word but rather use "participants" as we are all active participants there!
Some are more participants than others, you know... there are even those who you have to cut because otherwise they steal the show. 🤣🤣

We only truly benefit from having followers or following others on hive, if we understand what it truly means. It goes beyond comments curation or praise singing through comments.
